There is no bigger fan than I of big flies for bass, but I have to admit, most of my largest fish are caught on small patterns.
I had tied these flies on a size 8 hook.
I catch most of my largest fish on small flies, but I am fishing smaller flies most of the time.

Great story Rick. What do you consider small? 10’s, 12’s, 14’s? Or smaller?
Warm Water
For wamr water most of my flies are not 10 and 12.
I do use some smaller flies. Some midges in size 20 and 22.
I used to be size 6 and 8 but the smaller fliesa re working better for me.

Smart move, Rick – transferring that hog bass from the stilling pond over into the main lake. If you hadn’t, the stilling pond would be getting bum rushed by every bass fisherman in four counties.
Even as it is…well, let’s hope you don’t have to give “free swimming lessons” to too many locals next spring.
