Rick's Article "Rude People"

Rick

WOW!!! You seem to be a magnet to some very rude people. I’ve been fishing for 40 years and have never come across the aggressive and rude people that you have. WOW!!!What is it about you? Is it an IOWA thing?

Have a great day!

Greg

I have lived other places. I can tell you Iowa doesn’t have a monopoly on rude people or idiots. Rick stands his ground well, I have to admire.

I got props for you Rick. here in California, if I had thrown him in I woulda gotten sued if I stayed around to fish and get identified.

Hi All,

I can’t imagine doing what that guy did to Rick, or that sort of thing to another fisherman. It shows what some folks will do.

I’m sort of a passive sort, and would probably just have moved. However, I have to respect Rick’s action, he gave the idiot exactly what he had earned. WAY TO GO RICK!

Regards,

Gandolf

That’s why I don’t go down and fish with him anymore. Nasty people in the SW portion of the state. Ha!

Kudos for not following up with several rocks or a brick, or a cement block…

The reason anglerdave does not come down and fish any more is that I outfished him so badly.
The real reason is a problem with schedules.

Rick

Having also experienced “Rude People” in my part of the country, all I can say is “KUDOS!”

I’ve got to agree with Greg on this one. In over 55 years of fishing, (bait, hardware, plastic, fly, freshwater, saltwater or brackish water) I’ve never run into anyone who intentionally tried to be rude or start trouble. Yes, I’ve been crowded, had people cast across my line, even had families wade/swim through pools I’ve been fishing but the majority of these incidents are most frequently due to ignorance of fishing courtesy and inexperience. I’ve never had physical threats directed at me or used physical threats toward another fisherman. Keep in mind that I’m talking about other fishermen not jet skiers or water skiers. 8T

8T…I’ve been fishing as long as you have, & my experience has mirrored yours…In other words, positive. Were it the other way, I may not be fishing today.
Mike

In 5 decades of fishing, I have run into few rude or obnoxious people. And the few I have met never stayed around very long. It may be because I explained to them about having a subcutaneous transponder implanted in my skull that Extraterrestrials use to track me, then peering at them intently and asking if they are “one of Them???” If they are still around after that, I will usually have an argument with one or more of the voices in my head, and ask them if the voices are too loud for them. I may say that for some reason, the ‘voices’ don’t seem to like them.

This, coupled with the fact that I always have a large Cold Steel Bushman knife, and Cold Steel Plainsman Tomahawk on my belt, as well as one of Cold Steels wonderful Sjamboks, is probably why no one seems to want to talk very long. Like I said…I meet few rude or obnoxious people out fishing, or anywhere else…

Sorry…I have to go now. I think I am getting a call on my Toaster…:D:D:D

“I do not suffer from insanity…I enjoy every minute of it!”

At least the voices haven’t told me to do bad things… yet.

Serioulsy I’ve never ran into anyone that bad. A couple times folks want to fish too close, a few kids throwing rocks and families swimming. The worst was a pitt bull / lab mix that was not on a leash. That one was the first time in nearly 40 years of fishing that I actually started to draw the pistol from its holster. The mutt’s owner got it under control about 2 seconds before the dog was going to get shot.

In all the times I’ve been fishing, I’ve never had anyone want to get physical. Heck, I don’t think I’ve ever even had a heated discussion with anyone while out fishing. Hope it stays that way.

All,

I’ve “had words” with a individual one time while fishing. I’m actually madder at myself for allowing this inconsiderate person to get to me, but enough gets to be enough sometimes. I do try to be the “better person”, so to speak, but not always successfully. Gotta work on that!! Threats are another story altogether. I don’t play well with someone who is threatening me. Just sayin!

Best regards, Dave S.

Just where would someone find that article?

PLUS!!! It’s so good to see you here again! You have been sorely missed!

Thank you for the link Betty.

I was trout fishing. Went up to my favorite run that happens to be near some houses. it’s open fishing in a “trophy area”. There were three people fishing the run and normally we put 4-5 in there comfortably. Well the middle guy went to the lower section and I walked into the EXACT same spot he was. Well the “lady” fishing there walked over to me and said “you’re a little close aren’t you?” i said I just took that guy’s spot and I didn’t see you saying anything to him and anyway we usually put 5 guys in this same run. I didn’t move.
She came over later and apologized. Normally I would just say “no problem” and strike up a conversation. But the way she did it had me sooooooo PO’d I just glared at her.
Of course they have a house on that run and it’s “their run”.
Typical…

Other than that I really don’t think I’ve had a ‘run in’ with anyone anywhere while fishing. Then again I’m like 6’2" 230
