Thanks for the very cool perspective of 3 different versions and views of the same outing. The pictures are great as well. As primarily a warm water (not a lot of trout in Ohio) guy myself, I look forward to “Panfish” and “Warmwater” every week, the added bonus of a “Reader’s Cast” this week was appreciated.
Thanks for the kind words.
Have you thought about writing something and putting on the pnafish or Warmwater?
Remember Joe is thinking about moving to Idaho and may regress to fishing for trout.
Thanks from me, also, for mentioning the readers casts. If you hadn’t mentioned it I wouldn’t have read it either. Neat to read three accounts of the same trip.
Hey folks, I go through the trouble of producing a “What’s New” each week for this Bulletin Board. The three articles were all listed on it. Read the bloody thing so you don’t miss anything.
This is truly the only, regularly updated warm water conversation and accompanying articles I have found available anywhere. I enjoy cold water fishing, but I only have warm water near and REALLY appreciate the fact that, here, I don’t get the feeling that warm water fly fishing is an “Oh, by the way”. Thank you!
I read somewhere, reasonably recent, an industry article which claimed there are more non-trout fly fishers in the US than
trout/salmon fly fishers. JC and I have felt for some time this has been a very mis-treated segment of anglers. So it is not by accident that we devote so much space to our warm waters anglers.
I would like to say that being a lifelong cold water flyfisher, a few yrs ago at the WA Fish-In, I caught bluegill on dry flies and it was great fun! Those fish are ornery!

Besides the trout/salmon fly anglers being at the top of the fly angling chain, warm water fly anglers are ignored even here in Florida it seems, Deanna. Folks have the idea that if you fly fish here in Florida, then you must be fly fishing saltwater because the industry market here is really only geared for the saltwater fly angler, not the warm water fly angler. The conventional wisdom seems to be that warm water is only for the spin anglers because of the professional bass circuit and so on. What a shame to be on the short end of the stick again.
Rick,Dave & Joe(LF and JC too), Three articles about one fishing trip seemed like a dumb idea until I read all of them. Most entertaining to note the different things that made impressions and the different impressions made by the same things.
I loved the stories.
Y’all keep 'em coming.
I relish the day I walk into a fly shop, any fly shop, and see a large photo of a smallie, or a bluegill someone can’t put their grip on because of its size. I want to see a photo of a largemouth bass exploding on a deer hair popper. I’m more than a two hour drive from my nearest flyshop, and the owner and his chief tyer/expert are quite supportive of the warmwater crowd, and will always comment when I’ve had one of my warmwater articles published. Yet, from the displays it’s still a trout shop. All their trips are to trout venues, which is interesting considering one of the premier smallie fly fishing experts, and perhaps two of the best rivers in the world for them, the Mississippi and St. Croix, are within spitting distance, there are no promos and trips with Tim Holschlag. Personally I can’t thank Deanna and JC enough for their support of us. JGW
