revivex

anyone ever used revivex on their waders? got a bottle and then read the instructions that say to wash the garment, apply the revivex and then tumble dry. instructions specifically say not to air dry. can waders be dried in the dryer?

Revivex ROCKS and everybody who owns breathables would be amazed at how much better they perform when you renew the DWR coating on your waders. I’ve done my hippers & waders and the results are fantastic.

BUT; every manufacturer has their own opinion on how you can safely “set” the Revivex on their product. As you know; heat is required. When I did my Simms; I called Simms and they said they didn’t recommend the dryer because of possible damage to the bootee but advised using a hairdryer instead. Simms also recommended HAND WASHING ONLY and the use of powdered detergent to clean the waders prior to treating.

It was a ROYAL pain to use a hairdryer but I did as they said. I also have Hodgman and they said they didn’t recommend the use of heat at all because of the possibility of delamination.

In the case of my Hodgeman’s I took a chance and used the hair dryer and didn’t have a problem.

Revivex was designed for Gortex so Gore and any wader company that makes Gortex waders will recommend it but I’m not positive what the other breathable fabric manufacturers would recommend. But the bottom line is any warranty you may have on your waders is from the wader manufacturer not the fabric manufacturer so I’d call YOUR wader company and ask if doing the Revivex thing is OK in regards to their product.

BTW - The Revivex Synthetic Fabric Cleaner is a FANTASTIC product for cleaning the waders before treating them.

Have fun!

Another vote for Revivex.
After many years of use, I treated a Cabela’s Dry Plus rain jacket with Revivex but did not treat the matching rain pants. I let them both air dry in the hot sun. Then I hung them on a rail and put a fine spray nozzle from a garden hose on them. Water beaded up and ran off the jacket but the pants outer fabric got wet.

My fishing buddy and I both had the same age Cabela’s Dry Plus fishing jackets. Before going on our third Alaska two week float I cleaned mine and then washed it with Revivex. I “set” the Revivex with quick strokes of the iron set on very warm. During the two weeks in AK, the outside fabric on my jacket stayed mostly dry while my friends stayed mostly wet. Very pronounced difference.

I hand washed the outside of my Simms waders and then soaked the outside in Revivex. I used the iron method to “set” the Revivex. It helped some, but not as good as new.

I’m sold on the product.

thanks guys. i believe i’ll try the hair dryer method. a little leery of using an iron on my waders.
