I’m thinking a mess of bluegills (of course, that would require Spring at some point); could pass for a green rockworm. Looking for something a bit lighter hackle-wise, I used hen pheasant; partridge would work fine, too.
hook - Mustad 94840 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - Flashabou gold
abdomen - rabbit chartreuse
thorax - hare’s mask
hackle - hen pheasant
head - ostrich herl black
Part 1
mash barb, start thread 1 hook eye width back from the eye
prep hackle, tie in by tip; tie in rib and wrap back to bend
dub thread/dub body - one turn behind the rib, then forward to 2/3 mark
NIce nice nice! Scott you have me looking at your work almost daily man, for I love the step by step photography.
When you mentioned this fly for Bluegills, I’m wondering if this fly might catch Black Crappies in one of my local lakes, for they seem to have a tendency to bite on green things here (something I don’t tell other local fishermen) when I’m out fishing in the spring.
Heck, I might just have to do some of these! Chartreuse is a key strike trigger for Green Sunfish, and I’ve got a local creek that’s chock full of them things!
