Just about every State, plus the US Forest Service, have similar programs. Many county facilities, a few cities, and even some Indian Reservations have such openings (a friend had an opportunity to ‘host’ a limited access pay per day lake on one of these reservations…free fishing on a lake full of big fish with VERY little pressure…he couldn’t do it, though, because of other obligations…I almost cried for him). Volunteer ‘camp hosts’ at State/Federal campgrounds, plus the various ‘attraction’ type parks all need extra ‘help’ during their seasons. Some even provide a small stipend in addition to the ‘free space’.
Even many ‘private’ RV parks and such will take on what they call ‘work campers’ who get a space for their RV (and often other nice ‘perks’) in exchange for a certain amount of ‘work hours’ each week.
There is even a publication for those interested called ‘Work Camper Magazine’.
The RV park I rent my cabin from each summer in Colorado takes on ten to fifteen such ‘work campers’ each season to help run the park. Free space on a lake full of fish, access to boats, they even buy their workers a fishing license. Nice place to spend a summer. They do ‘work’ though, and it’s not just ‘make work’. They earn their keep.
For those who may be interested, there is currently a shortage of ‘work campers’ right now. Both the advancing age of the public and the cost of maintaining an RV has depleted the ranks of those with both the time and ability to take these postiions. Lots of great opportunities out there right now.
Great way to get to spend some time someplace interesting, really get to ‘know’ it, without it costing too much.

Oh I would love to do this, hope I can if I ever retire.

Retired over 20 years and had many such offers–the best in the Tetons and another taking families on guided Yellowstone Lake fishing boats. Turned them down to travel around the country in the RV. BILL
My wife has been offered a job on our favorite lake to be a backup campground host 4 days a week. The perks are nice. I just wouldn’t see her for the summer except on my days off. That is one of the perks she likes LOL. The work is hard and the pay is ok, but the perks are fabulous. They supply the propane for the moterhome, so much a hour, all cleaning supplies, and so much a mile to use the car. lake is about 1 1/2 hours from our house (100 miles). She just may take it cause we camp up there all summer. always have a campspot this way and get paid to camp LOL.
I’m ready!!
