I love my traveller vise but I like having a longer stem to tie on. I ordered a 9" stem from Renzetti, but I can’t get the top of the old stem off. Has anybody done this before? I took of the arm with the jaws and the handle, but the coller where the knob that tightens the arm will not come off. Iam afraikd of destroying it if I put too much pressure on it. Any ideas??
Top of the step is an allen screw, the head screws into it. Place the stem in a pipe wrench with a hard rubber shim around it.
Then secure the pipe wrench, maybe a machinist vice?.. Another wrench over the head and another hard rubber shim (something like those no slip pads).
With a big enough lever you can move the world.

Never mind, it just popped loose. I also have a Peak vise, and I do like it just slightly better. I got the Renzetti for $80, only used 3 times by a friend who just decided he’d rather buy his flies. Now I keep it in my desk at work and enough basic materials to tie a few simple nymphs and buggers at lunch time.
When someone asks for help they don’t need wis a** comments. mcsteff needs to grow up and act a little more dignified.
Mcsteff’s comment didn’t bother me. I actually cracked a smile when I saw it. I was more impressed with the response time. 2 answers in 7 minutes. What a great resource this place is.
Soup,
That’s great. I would just hate to see someone afraid to ask questions on this BB for fear of the kind of response they would get.
I understand what your saying. Peace.
the whole one vise as opposed to another thing is kinda silly.
we tend to use what we’re most comfortable tying with and ultimately that’s all that matters.
