Reno/Tahoe Area in May?

I am going to be in the S. Lake Tahoe and Reno area for business, and have May 13-15 free to fish (of course, who would want to gamble).

I have not much experience outside of Alaska, other than fishing the San Juan last February for four days (fantastic!) and warm water stuff in the Carribean.

It looks like I might be fighting high runoffs from the Sierras on the Truckee, Little Truckee and Carson Rivers. Not sure on lakes. I don’t mind driving a bit, anyone care to point an Alaskan flyfishing lunatic in the right direction? Can provide the same if anyone wants AK info as I fish 100-130 days a year here, and have 25 days in since January 1.

Thanks!

You can probably find maps at http://www.fishsniffer.com/maps/[/url:996d4] .

Don’t forget your non-resident CA fishing license: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing/sportfishingfees.html[/url:996d4]

You can get a fishing report weekly from the San Jose Mercury News’ web site. Here’s the current report (updated on Thursdays, current report should be free):

They cover the Tahoe area along with most of the state so it’s not in-depth coverage. You should be able to find more detailed coverage from fly shops closer to where you’ll be fishing.

I don’t know if this will help you but I hope it will. It is from Fly Fisherman Mag.

I have fished there before, since my father lives in Truckee, Ca. John

I wish you all everlasting flies and tight lines.

Thanks all for the leads and links! I have been watching Reno Flyshop’s site too, they have a fishing report but havn’t updated for a week. I think I will be paying them a visit when I get onsite, and buy some flys and get some local advice too.

Trout fishing closes up here from Sunday until June 10 for the spawn, and the ice is 3-4 feet thick on the lakes. So I am looking forward to my Sierra flyfishing opportunity.

I live south of Lake Tahoe on Hwy 395. I do expect the flows to be high during your trip. If you want to email me I can give you the latest info that I have. Try our fly shop that has a link to river flows for real time flows. www.theanglersedge.com[/url:17af7]
