Renegade with a color twist

Just thought I would show what I plan on going after some bream with. I am new to tying these, but it’s OK? Kind of looks like I should have started my cream hackle a little farther back, but I am sure the fish will not mind, LOL!

Skip,

As always, looks good. You and the bream will enjoy a lot.

looks like you got the hackles backwards and forgot the tinsel tag

LOL!! Ya think the fish will notice? Looks good to me! I think the fish will eat it!

Skip: I have read that (1) The white is tied in front so that the fly is more visible to the fisher not the fish, and (2) The gold tag is effective as an additional attractant to the fish.

Nice looking fly.

Nice example of the Idaho State Fly.

Yes, the traditional pattern does have the white in the front, and that definitely helps when fishing the fly dry in moving water. As far as a tag goes, I usually tie them with a red floss tag.

But the neat thing about the Renegade is that you can fish it dry with a dead drift, you can fish it dry and skate it, you can fish it wet on a drift or a swing, or strip it, or just let it hang - FISH LIKE IT.

Good luck with it.

John

Glo God;
Like I told you, in our emails back and forth, it’s a great looking fly and your color combos and placement of hackles, is strictly to your own liking!
Petemc, is spot on, too, "You’ll confuse the fishies, making them think the hook point’s on the opposite end and they’ll hit the fly without any worries! (THEY’RE mistake, of course).
The gold tag, is optional, too and I also tie with a red tag instead of tinsel, on those very rare occasions I even REMEMBER to put one on!
I like the “Skipagade”, keep on tying buddy!

Really appreciate all the tips and will tie more with all these comments included. For the first time in 5 months I don’t have an order for jigs to tie. I have been so darn busy with them I have not been able to do my fly thing justice, but I am sure another order is right around the corner, but that is a good thing I guess, LOL!

Man you guys made me think my dyslexia was striking me ( I do have that), but I got the pattern from this site and he has it backward I guess?

Thanks again,

PS need to try that gold tag thing for sure!

Well, Glo God, THAT EXPLAINS ABSOLUTELY ((((EVERYTHING)))) as to "why the hackle’s reversed, in color and no tinsel, or, red butt tag on your version!!!
LOOK at the SITE LOCATION of that link you’ve posted!!
"Fly Fish-“OHIO”!??!
I thought, maybe, you’d gotten your pattern from here, in America, NOT from an “offshore country” like OHIO for gosh sakes!?!
After all, you’re grabbing patterns from a place that harbors such individuals as “Joe V.”, “The Vise varmint”, “Ohiofly” and a few others, that the standards of this fine site won’t allow me to print here!! Now,I halfway expect you to post that “Jack Hise, told me, this” and “WarrenP, gave me this idea”… “GnuBeeTyer, passed this along, to me” and so on. PLEASE, be more careful, my friend, VERY careful!

I am so new to most of this fly stuff I don’t even know who or what you are talking about, LOL! Just ran into that link some where and liked the looks of the fly.

As of Ohio being another country, they may as well be as I have never been there and have no desire to go. I absolutely love the South too much to get that far North especially up there.

Now I would love to go up to Washington St. or Oregon sometime, but doubt that I will make it. The North West I would love to see and fish and the North East, well let just say I didn’t lose anything there.

May tie one like it was meant to be today.

Glo God;
One nice thing about “you wanting to come to the Great Northwest to fish someday”, is it might be the only destination you could head to, where there’s a free bed and darn decent food waiting for you, no charge! (You might NOT, want to mention to my bride, that I took it for granted, she’s going to cook for a couple of ranging looking reprobates like you and I, though?).
You, get up here to Oregon and the rest will be taken care of! Like I said, the bed’s free, as is the great food. The only drawback is, your guide for the waters around the state, is dumb as driftwood, cranky, old, avoided by all children, dogs and most domesticated animals and can’t cast beyond 10’. But, hey… he’s free and comes with the package, so ya’ can’t complain too much.
Just let me know, at least 2 days in advance of your arrival, so I can shoo the goats off the bed and move to chickens to another building!

flybinder I always look forward to your post as they make me smile at the least!

I also really appreciate the invite too and hopefully some time I will make it there.

I am also going to work on some more Glow Flies soon as I need a selection for me and to sell. I am looking into getting the sole rights to Glow stuff the way I do it. May not come to fruition, but may as well try huh?

Here is my revised Renegade with the color twist…

Skip,

The reason the hackle is reversed is because Joe Cornwall’s site is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, which is really in Kentucky, not the Island Nation of Ohio. As soon as you cross the Ohio River, it’s all topsy turvey, and if the wind blows from the South, it affects the fly tiers in Cinci.

Joseph the Northern Renegade

BTW, here’s my BH Pearl Renegade I did for a FAOL swap. Notice the tag is mylar tinsel:

Skip,
As far as I’m concerned, Dallas is too far north. They get SNOW in the winter up there. I went once, gettin away from Rita. Came home as soon as I could.

I know you’re up there by Toledo Bend (God’s country). I think we may have to get together sometime to fish. Fly flingers are kinda thin on the ground around here.

Kirk

This is a hi-jack but you brought it up ,Skip. Just this last week I thought I came across what I thought your glow stuff might be…but maybe I’m wrong cause I doubt it has rights attached…

If it is already made and ready to use it is not what I use.

Skip

Hi Kirk,

Sure maybe we can get out on this lake and catch a few. Look forward to meeting you sometime. I live near Six Mile Marina. It’s really cool to have 2 such big good lakes so close. I am on the water here and Rayburn is only about 25 miles.

Skip

That is a good looking fly!

Thanks for showing it!
