In your story you said “I’ll prefer to drop down onto the beach and lounge around a bit, waiting. (It is amazing how comfortable one can be while taking a nap on the river worn round rocks on some of our beaches).”
It brought a smile to my face. I know just what you mean, having spent a few moments resting on those very same stones. I still have that image in my mind. Me, laying down on those stones, in a pleasant state of half sleep, you and two other fishermen talking in French, so I only 1/2 (or 1/4) understood what you were saying. What I did know is that it was very pleasant, resting there by the river side with the sounds of the run and the French rolling off your tongues. I lay there a few extra minutes because I did not think that fishing would be more pleasurable than resting on the stones, a few feet from the water’s edge.
Days like that do not slip from one’s mind for a long, long time.
Chris: There’s a pool on our group’s favourite river in Newfoundland, the Codroy, that has a nice sandy bank just right for afternoon naps in June when the salmon seem to take a siesta also.Opening day June 1/07 is a long time away though…Frank Walsh
I wish I had a dollar for every time I have laid down on the rocky shores of the Miramichi River and had a very nice nap. There’s something about those rounded rocks and pebbles that let you do that.
However, put one #4 split shot in your bed and try to get some sleep.
Hey guys,
Although your description of " resting/napping on the stones" sounds serene and restful, where I fish, resting on the stones would be more like penance for ones sins.Perhaps that’s what y’all are doing?? Perhaps a hair shirt instead?
