When refinishing a bamboo rod, is it:
the decal and hand signature on the rod?
The HI decal and the “Governor” are in fine shape … just don’t know what the usual way is to handle it. I am refinishing rather than restoring, if that makes a difference.
I prefer to leave 'em on , even if I’m adding guides ( which is usually the case ). I roll a “Q” tip saturated in rubbing alcohol over the area and stop before all the old finish is gone . But , of coarse , it’s entirely up to you whether you keep it or not .

I’d leave the decal and /or signature. If it has varnish over it you could try magic tape to protect it while you work on the rest of the rod.
