Has anyone out there refinished a cane rod? It is not a vintage or even an expensive rod but just want to do it for the experience and fun of it. make it look nice for a friend. already measured out and taken of guides and want to know what type of stripper or varnish remover people have used. i know some breaks down glue used in making the rod so want to hear from some people who have experience. any info would be appreciated. thanks
some people use citrus strip. I used the edge of exacto knife. You draw the knife at less than a 90 degree angle just try not to gouge the bamboo. It didn’t take me long to do scrape mine.
I asked the same question on another board and several said they used ZipGuard. Just wipe on let set a few minutes and wipe off. Doesn’t harm the glue. If you scrape, be very careful.
