Reel Seat/spinning rod

I don’t know much about ordering spinning rod components so I have 2 questions.

1.) I ordered a rod and the butt is 0.415. I was told I needed to buy a size 16 reel seat? Will I need graphite arbors to attach the reel seat?

Thanks,
Bruce

Yes! Typically the I.D. of reelseats that size ( Especially the Fiji graphite) run “about” .65

A lot depends on the USAGE of the rod. If its for freshwater fish of AVG size…AT TIMES you can ream out a wooden reelseat INSERT to just slip over the blank

Thanks, Sully.
That’s all I need to complete my nephew’s rod. Now I’m going to have to pay $5 shipping on about $8 worth of components.

Bruce,
You should look at this as an opportunity to have some fun in the ordering department!!! Make it well worth that $5!!

Hi Betty! Ordering fishing stuff is always fun. But, I sure could use a nice winter coat and pair of shoes. I spend way too much time and money ordering tying and building materials. But, it’s already January 14, too late to worry about buying a winter coat. It’s supposed to hit 40 degrees this weekend and I’m hoping to wet a line.

Something to keep in mind. On a fly rod you hold the grip. On a spinning rod, the majority of the time you are holding the reel seat itself. Sizing the reel seat for the users hand size makes the rod a lot more comfortable. A size 16 seat works for smaller hands, but may be uncomfortable for large hands.

I saw a tip for making arbors that are as simple as masking tape but much better. Get some of that yellow mesh drywall tape and cut some narrower strips out of that. Wrap it on like masking tape arbors. Saturate with epoxy and stuff things together.

It works!
