I’m lookin for a med-fast action rod in a 4 weight and tried out a Redington RS3 in a 8’6" 4 weight. It felt really nice and had a beutiful look about it. Anybody tried any of these and what are your thoughts… I really don’t want to spend more than $200 for this general purpose rod…
It was Beautiful… Sorry for the typo.
I haven’t used the Reddington, but St. Croix’s Avid is very nice. Same price too. If you wanted to spend a bit more, Sage’s new VT’s are awesome.
I have that rod in 9’ 3wt and 5wt. I have no complaints. I the 3wt is one of the better casting rods I have ever had.
I felt the 3 weight and loved it but wasn’t sure if it had enough backbone… What’s your thoughts since you have that rod?
Is the new restyled Avid as good as what I’m hearing? Your not the first to tell me it’s a great rod…
I owned a Redington Wayfarer and liked it. Warranty service is also very good. I think you won’t go wrong with one. Other rods to consider are the Albrights, TFO and Elkhorn. They are all in the same price range and of similar quality and service. The major difference is which one best fits your style.

I can’t say for sure, i’m going by what i’ve heard from friends. It’s supposedly leaps and bounds better than the previous incarnation. Very smooth and faster loading. The thing that bothers me with the Reddington’s, TFO’s etc., is that there made in China.
I guide for a Redington shop and use the RS3 for the guide business.
I love them and I’ve never had a client say they did not like them. Several clients have purchased Redington rods and combos from us after trips.
The seem to be hard to break, but still have a great action.
Just ran across this deal. They seem to be going fast, but what a deal. Redington Wayfarer for $71.
I think the 3wt has plenty of backbone. I have caught fish in the 20" range with it with no problem. For the price that RS series is very hard to beat.
I went ahead and got the 4 weight! It’s 8’6" and I had the chance to spend some time casting it… I love the way it feels. I’m very happy with this rod for the money…
