Red Sebring gets hit,,, again! grrr.. Castwell

Snivel, Snivel, whine, whine. :frowning:
It has happened again. By now many of you know we bought a 2006 Sebring convertible. Bright red with lotsa chrome. Second childhood perhaps, but we love the thing. We have had it a little over a year now. A few days after we bought it a lady in a Suburu backed into the passenger side. Took a while to get repaired.
TODAY,a guy with a huge crew-cab pick-em-up-bubba with a massive trailer hitch sticking out from the rear of his weapon, backed directly into the back bumper of my little red kiddie-car, RATS
Here I go again. Will need a whole rear bumper assembly!
What is it about a bright red car that folks can’t seem to notice? I baby that car. I wash that car. The inside is especially treated leather, spotless. I drive it carefully. I park where I’m not as likely to have ‘door’ damage. Today was one of those times. The ONLY way to get at my ‘baby’ was to hit the back end. He did. RATS!!!

JC,
I’m sorry your baby got hurt! I hope the body shop does a good job fixing it.
Doug

JC - I feel your pain. Fifteen years ago, I drove my bright red two week old sports car to Baltimore for an early morning meeting. It got rear ended - TWICE - all before 8AM! I’m convinced it has something to do with the color. Something like waving a red flag in front of a bull. At the time, my insurance agent told me that a study was done to determine the color of vehicle most likely to be involved in an accident. Red was the highest risk by a large margin. Gotta love those shiny red cars though…

Fly the Stars and stripes from a whip antenna.

Even red necks will avoid damaging the flag.

I feel your pain. My last two cars have both been hit hard within the first week of driving off the dealer’s lot. Like you I baby my car (and everything else I own) and to know its been damaged just make me sick. I hope your body shop has some skilled artisans there. It makes all the difference in the world.

Jim,
I am sympathetic to what you are going through. After what I saw on July 3rd I am extremely thankful that neither you nor Deanna were injured. I know you love that car and they are a sweet ride but the car can be replaced, you and Deanna cannot.

I think a guy named Murphy wrote something about that.

Just like that first rod that you beat to death your whole life and it never breaks. Then the first time out with your brand spanken new (name drop here) the first 3 inches gets loped off in the car door, or against a branch, or trying to unsnag your fly.

I feel your pain, but it could always be worse. Good Luck with the repairs.

J.C. this may make you feel better, then maybe not!!! I own a Bubba truck, Ford 350 Lariat super duty crew cab ( I needed it for towing and hauling, so it’s no toy truck)
I always park way out in left field where ever I go for the truck is also 4 wheel drive and doesn’t park in tight places, beside like you I do care for it and don’t want it banged up in a parking lot.
I went to Walmart and parked way over next to the nursery section, nothing but a electric utility truck with a telephone pole on a trailer there. He was 40 feet away so no problem. I came home and parked beside my boat and it was 3 days later I walked behind my truck to put things in the boat and had a rather huge hissy fit when I saw my bumper.
The guy in the utility truck must have backed half way across the parking lot and tore the holy#$&* out of my back bumper. A little piece of telephone pole and a large part round impression on my mangled bumper.
I do honestly feel your pain, and I truely am sorry it was a bubba truck driver that did the damage. I wish you the best at getting it fixed better than new.
The very best to you and Lady Fisher

JC so sorry to hear of your troubles. Here is what you never do when buying a car, never, never, never buy red. It isw a magnet for small and large bumbs and scrapes. And most important of all cops just love them

This gets even more strange. I was on the phone with QC last night. Told him my ‘tale-of-woe’ and guess what. He was getting an estimate at a repair shop yesterday too. The dollar amount for the work was within a few bucks for each of us (just a bit under a grand). He got hit in the left-front while he was in the store the day before. His truck, is red!

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting to where I want to rent a car to go shopping any more…: ) When I came out of Walmart the day I was hit by the utility truck with the pole trailer was gone and my truck was the only thing in the lot. I came from the front of the truck so I didn’t see any thing wrong.
When I did see the damage 3 days later I called the public service company and they told me they had no trucks in the vicinity that day.(I expected no less) I had an estimate that was over $1,200, I have $500 deductable, soooo I took it off and went to my buddy who has a fabrication shop. They got it mostly straightened out and I’ll live with it, but I have been left with this maddening urge to destroy pole trailers and utility trucks. I’m quiet sure you feel the same for Bubba trucks. By the way, my truck is Green and Tan, but it still took a licking anyway.
And by the way, good for you and Lady Fisher for getting the Sebring, I think that is way cooool. Everyone should have what they desire, and it’s good to see someone achieve that.I can just see you both going down the road grinnin with the top down and Quad’s in the back.
My your days always be sunny and the top down, Jesse

JC,

My wife has owed 3 red cars: a Honda Accord, Chrysler LeBaron convertible and an Infiniti J30. She had accidents with all 3 cars, not one of them were her fault. The Chrysler and Infiniti were near totaled. Needless to say, no more red cars!

So, the auto-shop gave me an estimate, they ordered the rear bumper and notified the insurance company. Not so fast! They (insurance company) will not authorize anything until ‘their’ investigator looks the car over. That was what ‘she’ (insurance company dolly) said and the fastest they could get out to look at it was the following Friday. I had to agree that the car would be available all day Friday. I agreed. So, I called ‘her’ Friday afternoon, just before ‘her’ quiting time. The investigator had not called nor shown up. Well, I didn’t reach ‘dolly’, I got her answering machine stating; “Hi, this is THURSDAY, please leave a message.” Thursday?
So I did leave a message. Nicely informing her that her guy did not show up on Friday. Maybe next week? Please call me and let me know. This is now MONDAY, nothing from her yet. In fact, her message still thinks it’s last Thursday. hmmm

and the name of your insurance company is…? We’re due for renweal and want to be sure we don’t have the same ones.

JC;
Had a like problem with “The Good Hands People”, over a truck of ours. FIVE CALLS, over 6 days and no results from the agent.
I called the Oregon State Insurance Board, in Salem, (the capital), and complained about the agent. That was on a Tuesday.
The next day, the agent called me, set up a rental at NO expense to me, (that WAS NOT, part of my policy with that company then!?), and the agent had my truck, picked up at my house, when he delivered my rental unit then dropped the truck back off when it had been repaired.
I had a $250.00 deductible and that was also waived.
Did a little “more snooping” about this agent. Came to find out that his office was on “Probation” with the head office.
I’m sure, Washington has the same insurance oversee board, you might give them a jingle!?!

Got a call today from the auto-body shop. He had called them and got through to somebody different at the company somehow; they told him to call me, and have me call the company again. Like what, they can’t make outgoing calls? Well, anyway, I will call tomorrow (Tuesday). Summertime, vacations, flu, who knows what may have gone on. Must be some good reason for a fine company like Liberty Mutual to have this happen.

Yup, guess I’ll pay my renewal premium now.

Sure is a darn shame that your company got hit by the flu and all that, JC. If I was in your shoes I’d have the Insurance Commissioners number on speed dial.

REE

I really dislike insurance companies, all of them. Legalized extortion. They are all good at taking YOUR money, but they are really BAD at giving YOUR money back to you WHEN you NEED it.

Don’t get me going.

JC, you may want to try parking with the rest of the cattle at the Home Depot or where ever you are. Parking out in the boonies to avoid dings puts you in a place where the Yeahoos don’t expect you to be. If they don’t expect a car there, they are not looking for a car there. People are creatures of habit and even though there is a bright red convertible there, their brain does not register the fact because they were not expecting to see a car there.

(by the way, I like those Sebring 'verts. I have a bright red Pontiac G6 convertible myself)

Jeff

Ron, It is the insurance company of the guy who hit me that is the problem. We got his name, and all the ‘numbers’. “They”, L.M. who are dragging their heels. I am with ‘Farmers’. No problems in 20 or so years.
