Red Paper wasp

A durable fly that would hold up to a day of fishing and still look good sitting on my fly bench.

Son of a biscuit eating basketball player! My wife would be freaking out and squirting that with wasp killer spray.

Holy moly <and some other funny sentence which I’m not capable of comin up with right now>.
What are the materials?

I can’t see your fly, a wasp landed on it.

Thanks guys . The wasp is tied with deerhair , thread , monofilement for the legs. The wings are made from plastic sheeting with hackle stems for the veins . Very tough fly.
thanks again, Fred

Bet it was hard sticking the hook through that wasp without getting stung.

Beautiful dressing. Would be interested in a materials list as well.

materials? I want to see a tutorial!! AMAZING.

another killer fly Fred!!

I was thinking the very same thing. I think this borders on bait!

That’s awesome!!

Honest I gave you the materials . The abdomen is deerhair and thread . Tied as an extended body. The head is tied as a tube of deerhair and thread then bent across the hook and tied together . Both techniques I learned from another tyer , David Martin . You can see some of the techniques in the step by step pages on my website . www.realisticflytying.net

Wow! You do some nice work . Wow!

I’m still waiting for somebody to say “April Fools”! :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally looks real!

Wow! Very nice realistic. I’m always impressed by what you realistic tyers can do. Thanks for sharing.

Outstanding!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words .

Fred, you may know this story or something similar, but I read article on realistic tying a few years ago, an American Tyer went to a big tying show in Europe and tied some realistic flies while at the show. Upon returning, to the US, Customs confiscated the flies believing there were real insects impaled on hooks, and bringing them into the US was some kind of agriculture/FDA no-no. At least thats what the tyer was told. He never did get his flies, and the article ended with the author speculating the customs agent kept the flies for himself.

It’s not April, but I keep expecting the same thing!! Amazing!!

I do admire your discipline, as well as your committment to your art. McGiver can’t touch you!

Dana

Thanks Dana (Colorodo) and hungNtree . These require more time than an average fly but they are tough and tend to last longer.
