… is the place to go for salmon steaks on the fin.

Interesting article, Tim. Curious how the shrimp are thought to wipe out some Kokanee populations ??

John

John. I read all the ODFW news releases. I didn’t pay much attention to the bit about the shrimp when I read this one. So I did a Google on the shrimp (Mysis relicta) and it appears they are in competition with the young Kokanee for the zooplankton food supply. If things get upset the fishery suffers.

Tim

That is exactly how the Kokanee population in Flathead Lake was destroyed. And it was a large, healthy population.

I’ve wondered why the shrimp didn’t become a dominant food source??? I know of a rather large reservoir that has so many shrimp in it that the rancher says when the irrigation has been off for awhile and then restarted the irrigation water smells like dead fish…the rainbow are thriving and get to be quite large.
