Recipe for cripple/emerger that was pictured in my last post:

This is the recipe for the cripple/ emerger I tied and posted picture in my last post (Weaved Stone Fly).

Thanks Aileen. I think I’ll teach that fly at my next class, after I stock my emerger box with a row or two.

Thanks for the pattern Aileen, I definately will try it -just gotta get some caribou hair first - do you have to use Caribou? can you use Elk or Deer instead?

Jeanne

Yes, you can substitue for deer or elk hair but, I think it would give a totally different look to the fly. Caribou is great dry fly material. It sheds water and snow, is very light and hollow. The hair is softer than deer or elk.

Hope you find some!!

Aileen -

Neat looking emerger. It seems to me you could substitute snowshoe foot hair for the wing for the same, if not quite so sparse, effect. I’ve used it for the wings on similar emerger patterns, and if you get the good stuff, it is pretty easy to work with and floats very well.

John

I will try that! Thanks, John
