Recipe for 12-15 ft. Leaders?

Read several references lately to using 12-15 ft. leaders for fishing dries to trout in shallow & low flows.

Could find only a couple of 12ft. leaders in Cabela’s catalog and none longer.

Recipes anyone?

2 feet of tippett to the Cabelas leader?

Kaboom1–was your post above a serious answer, or a tongue firmly planted in cheek response? Inquiring minds must know.

O.K. Let me add some data. I want to be fishing #22 dries, and having tied my own leaders in the past, 5X, I want to know if anyone has a formula (from butt to tippet) for tying a tapered leader that would have a 7X tippet and an overall length of 15 feet.

Add 18 inches of 6x to your 5x leader, then 18 inches of 7x added to the 6x. That will taper your leader to 7x. Personally I would just add 3 feet of 6x to your 5x leader. It really is like “building” your own leader.

have you tried leader calc

I regularly fish a 15 - 16 foot leader. I start out with a seven foot furled leader, add a 4-5 foot length of 5x, then go with a 4-5 foot length of 7x. Here are the furled leaders I use -
