I was thinking about this years wet fly swap and wanted to change it up a bit. Only wet fly patterns found In Ray Bergmans book “Trout” will be acceptable. Flies will be due to my address no later then December 11, 2005. This swap will be open to the first 13 tyers. I will not take any more than 13. This means if the swap is full you will have to tye a total of twelve flies. I will provide my address when the swap is filled. Sign up dead line will be November 11, 2005. Please when signing up to provide the pattern that you will be tying A.S.A.P. Thanks as always for your participation.

Long Time no see (or hear). Where ya been keepin yourself? Are you tying in any of the Danbury shows? If so, I’ll see you in January. Had a good fishing season. Hope you had the same. Meanwhile, guess I’ll start off tying this winter by getting into your wet fly swap. Okay, from one wet fly guy to another: How about the Cowdung? Yeah, put me down for the Cowdung. (“Trout”) Plate 2, pages 426-8, fourth printing of 52 edition (1968).
Hope everything is well with you.

I added you to the list of tyers, thanks for joining. The Cowdung is a nice fly that is very affective. I have been tremendously busy this years with life and the new job. I am working on a few projects that I really wanted to do this year. I have just for this year only, decided to drop out of the shows and work on these projects. I will be going to see the shows so in Danbury, so either way I can sit down with you and talk. That Blue Professor was extremely a sucessful fly this year and so were a few other Bergman patterns. You will be seeing my work all over in the coming months on various web sites and hopefully a magazine or two. I have a new PC at home that has finally brought Ray (I) back into modern times. Soon I will be able to up load photo’s of flies I am working on after Santa makes a vistit this season. Ray (I) have been a good man this year and feel Santa is taking care of this one wish. Will be tying with my Mentor and Friend Don Bastian at his Wet Fly Class in February or March of 2006.

I will tie the pale evening dun, plate 6, row 8, second fly from the left.
I will be trying to copy the model tied by don bastian, fly #312 in forgotten flies. tomorrow I’ll pick up the hooks, probably a #8 or #10, though I’ll pick up some #6’s as well. don’t know if I could bring myself to fish a #6, but this set will probably end up in a shadow box (as have the previous two wet fly swaps).
the prototype I tied tonight came out rather nicely. over time these have become some of my favorite flies to tie. oneofthesedaze I need to try some of those married wings.
I hope mike adams gets wind of this swap as I’ve got a lovely box of wets he tied me about a year ago. I’ll email him tomorrow.
andy, on another thread you mentioned wrapping a conventional soft hackle on the wets you fish. do you fold the hackle and how many turns do you take?

Hi Andy…great to see you back on the boards and preachin the wetfly gospel…count me in for the swap but I’ll have to get back to you with a pattern…Jason
Hi Andy
Glad to see your up and running again I missed seeing you on the site. I would like in this one always a good swap I will tye the last chance I think that was bergman if not let me know.
later monty
On my fishing flies I tie the wing in and at the base of the wing I tie in a hen cape feather and fold it like a soft hackle. I only use one to two turns the most. I have found and could not agree more with Darbee that the Beard/False hackle serves no useful purpose on the fly. Darbee used a collar as well. The collar does add a life to the fly and I feel through my experiance that it has increased my catch ratio. Hope this helps.
it does help, though I wonder if the beard serves no purpose, why include it? my thinking is that it represents legs and adds a bit of movement to the fly.
I am playing hooky form work on monday to celebrate my birthday and am going fishing. I intend to fish this very smallstream w/ dries on the way upstream and winged wets on the way back down. I’ll prolly tie some up in a #12 max. these beautiful wild browns tend to be rather small. do you ever swing a brace of wets?
Welcome aboard and thanks for joining. Good batch of tyers entering this one. Nice to see that. Glad you made it in. Please provide me the pattern As soon as yo can and I will add it to the list which is posted at the beiginning of the swap.
