It took about 10-12 ft of the 4mm cane to wrap my handle. Narrower cane will take more wraps, therefore a longer piece.

I put my cane in a large mug and covered it with water. Then I nuked it for 1.5 minutes and let it set for 15 minutes before trying to wrap with it. Worked well that way. The cane was flexible enough to wrap, but still did not have the lateral flexibility to do the fancy stuff with. I tried soaking it longer to get the lateral flexibility and it didn’t work. I just had really wet cane. :slight_smile:

Here are pics of the rattan handle on the 'boo rod. I’m going to call this my “Ninja Rod” How does it feel? If I had to say right now, it would have to be “sticky” The second coat of Flex-Coat isn’t cured yet. :lol:

I put two coats of Flex-Coat Lite on it. It isn’t sticky anymore. :slight_smile: Overall, the rod came out very nice. I’m pleased with it. Don’t know what I’m going to do with it, yet, but I’m pleased with it.

Ok, rattan wrappers. Can the stuff be stained prior to wrapping? Just wondering about staining to match the wood insert on the reel seat?

Yes, it can be stained. If you are using the regular stuff with the shiny “skin” on the curved side, it will take some experimenting to get the shade right and it will probably not be an even color.

They make a version specifically for dying that David showed me which has the skin stripped off. It still takes a bit of experimenting to get the shade right but it will be an even color.

I think staining to match the reel seat is a great idea. Staining opens all kinds of possibilities.
