Rakkenes Flymf SBS

Found this over on a Norwegian site; similar to other Humpy/Compara-ish emerger versions, this one has a deer hair tail. Tied here as a PMD; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #14 (same shank length as a standard #16 but this hook provides a wider gap)
thread - Uni 8/0 Lt. Cahill
tail - deer hair bleached
rib - x-small wire copper
abdomen - pheasant tail bleached
wingcase/wing - deer hair bleached
thorax - dubbing pale yellow

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap to bend

clean, stack, measure (shank length) a sparse clump of deer hair; tie in/trim butts

tie in a few pt fibers; wrap to 2/3 mark, tie off/trim

counterwrap rib; helicopter end, cover with thread

clean, stack, measure (shank length) another clump of deer hair; tie in one eye width back from the eye with tips facing forward

Part 2

to cut down on bulk for the shellback, trim out about 2/3 of the deer hair butts

dub thorax

pull the butts over the thorax; tie down/trim

pull wing up/back, secure in place with thread dam

a little more dubbing in front of the wing

half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Scott,
“Flymf”? Obviously it doesn’t translate into “flymph” in English. Or is their idea of a flymph totally different?

Joe

Joe,

Using the trusty interweb Norwegian-English translator, “flymf” is the same in both languages. I’d have to guess the word means something different to our Norse friends.

Scott
