Looking at building another rod for back packing. It will be used on smaller streams and rivers in the back country. Although it may end up at the local pond too. The blank that has my attention is the Rainforest Dark Green 7’6", 4pc, 4wt. I would like some feed back if anyone has built on these blanks before or has some kind of experience with them.
Have built 5 of them (Cary, me, and three friends) and have 4 to go (2 sons, 1soninlaw, 1 daughter). I love 'em!! Fantastic little all round rod, would be great as a back-packer.
I built myself a Pac Bay Rainforest 8wt. A closeout at the time from H&H. It was to be a backup. It quickly turned into the first choice.
Because it was only going to be a back-up I used a graphite spinning rod reel seat and a bottle cork fighting butt.
Turns out I love it that way
(I think it’s a better stick than my rods built on Rain Shadow blanks… don’t tell anyone)
I agree with the other folks. These are nice blanks. I have built a fly rod and a spinning rod with these blanks, and think they are very nice. I would give them a thumbs up.
