Rain-X for fly floatant

Years ago I heard that rain-x was a good fly floatant. But you had to let it dry overnight before fishing with the fly. Has anyone used Rain-X for a floatant and what were the results.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

Read Buddy Sanders’ reply in a thread on fly floatants. I agree with what he said.

Any fly I have used the PRE flotant that required over night worked fine till fish on which hopefully happens quickly. Astwer that it was gone, so never use it.
I think it could mess up some hackle specially CDC.
Scotchgaurd works for what you are thinking and I have even used chap-stick on some flies, but Froggs Fanny is my choice.

i tried it a couple of year ago and did not care for it. gink and mucilin is better.

The late Al Campbell put whatever dry flies he tied at one sitting in Rain X and left them overnight. He really liked it.
