?It?s unnerving; it?s also hard to imagine how carp came to be labeled ?rough? or trash fish.?
Mike Dvorak Midwest Fly Fishing October 2007

Rick

To me, rough fish are fish with teeth like pickerel and gar for instance, not carp. I don’t look at rough fish as “trash” fish though. A good thought provoking quote.

Most of my fishing life, I didn’t like Carp and I didn’t go out of my way to fish for them, but the guys on the WW board that love fishing for Carp won me over. Their enthusiasm changed my attitude to one of respect.
Doug

The only real trash fish are the ones you catch in a garbage can. Calling any fish a “trash fish” only indicates the person has a case of “fish racism”.

To me, Someone who calls a certain fish a “Trash fish” is just showing their ignorance. :o

When I was kid I lived walking distance from the Connecticut River. During the spring thaw, the meadows along the river would flood
When the water receded, carp in the 20# range would be trapped the standing water.
I won’t go into all the ways we captured these fish, lets just say that shooting them with arrows was the most sporting method.
We would then take they down the road to the dump and sell them to the gentlemen that drove the garbage trucks
Trash fish? …Literally

Ignorant?
“Fish racist”?

While I’d never deny that carp can put up a tremendous battle on a fly rod – I’ve enjoyed a few of those battles myself – would you superior folks please forward to me the names of any professional Fish & Game biologists who do not consider carp detrimental to the overall health of their fisheries?

All things considered, the best bait for carp is rotenone.
