OK. This is my first effort at hosting a swap, so ill limit the participants to 10, including myself, and ill give ample time for sign up and completion.
lets say sign up cut-off of February 14, and a “mailed to me” deadline of March 31. This way, well all have our quills in time for opener and the big hatches. Quill body dry flies, any pattern, any size. choose your favorite classic or your favorite original.
The next page in this thread will be a list of participants. final mailing instructions when all slots are filled.
ready? GO!

Great idea! I’d like to join if there is still room. Will get back to you with what fly I’ll be tying. How many flies? One for each participant or two???
Thanks for hosting this one. Am new to tying with quills, hope that is OK.
welcome guys and thanks for joining. FFMark, youre in, no worries.
still one spot left. it will go to the first person to post.
lets make this a little bit different–well all tye 10 flies and submit them, that way each participant will recieve a “full set” in return. plus, this will cut down on my confusion when sorting them out .
in addition to the Pale Brown Mayfly, Ill be tying a second pattern for you guys. hope you enjoy it.
this is great. we got some good tyers here, and this is shaping up to be a real good swap. thanks for participating to all of you.
sweet! looks like we got the makings of a great swap. Thanks to all for joining.
OK–10 flies with toe-tags each to be received by me no later than March 31. as posted before, tying 10 each will minimize my confusion during sorting . post up the recipes here on the forum, and please post the sizes which you tied, not the recomended sizing according to the recipes.
please mail flies and SASE to:

i really look forward to seeing everyone’s work, and i cant wait to get my hands on some of those quill patterns.
remember to have fun in this swap. ive set the deadline far enough ahead to provide everyone with ample tying time, so relax and enjoy. if problems should arise, and they almost invariably do, please contact me ASAP so arrangements can be made. my email is in my profile. lets get tying!!
oh yea, one more thing. id really like to get pictures of this swap to post up. anyone have access to a macro/digital camera and the willingness to take some photos? let me know.
thanks again to all participants for joining.

Ok, after tying a few samples I have deceided on a “CDC Callibaetis Quill body Parachute”. If it has a fancy name, I don’t know. What I do know is that it will catch fish.
CDC Callibaetis Quill body Parachute
Hook: Mustad 94840 # 14
Thread Guderbrod 10/0 Rusty Brown
Tail 4-6 fibers of Bared Brown & Black Deer Tail (Taken from center of white tail)
Body: Callibaetis Turkey Biot
Post: Lemon Woodduck / Ginger CDC
Hackle: Ginger
Thanks for the swap
Jim

They should at least find you handy
heres my recipes: Pale Brown Mayfly
hook: TMC 100 #18
thread: light brown 8/0 prewaxed
tail: ginger hackle fibers
body: stripped light ginger hackle stem
wing: split sharptail grouse feather tip
hackle: medium bronze dun
I got tired of watching it snow so I tied up 10 olive quill midges tonight. I’ll hold off on sending them to you for a while so you don’t have to worry about keeping track of them.
Olive Quill Midge:
Hook: Daiichi #1110 size #22
Thread: Dark Gray
Tail(optional): Dark Dun Microfibbets
Body: Stripped Hackle dyed olive
Hackle: Dark Dun
The tails are optional, I usually tie them on to help with floatation. The fish in my area don’t seem to mind a midge with a tail. If the fish don’t like the tails, just snip them off.
Woops my bad. Must be my blond roots showing. A Biot is not a Quill. But these are looking so fishable, I’ll finish out the set. Gatta hit the books and find a Quill pattern. Stand by to Stand by.
