Quigley's Loopy Cripple SBS

Bob Quigley’s take on the loop wing theme; this one with the hackle splitting the uprights. Tied here as a PMD; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 125 #16
thread - Danville 6/0 pale yellow
rib - x-small wire copper
tail/abdomen - pheasant tail
post - antron yarn clear
thorax - dubbing pale yellow
hackle - light ginger
wing - Congo Hair dun

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, tie in rib and wrap halfway down the bend

measure (gap width) some pheasant tail fibers; tie in

wrap pheasant to 2/3 mark (just past hook point); tie off/trim

counterwrap rib; helicopter end, cover with thread

tie in (whatever material you like to use) loop at base of thorax

tie in a hank of CH, wrap back to base of thorax

Part 2

tie in hackle

insert the loop in a gallows (or your finger if you’ve got the skills), wrap hackle up (length of thorax), and back down; tie off at base, trim hackle

dub thread/dub thorax

stroke hackle fibers back, pull loop forward and tie down; trim

loop CH on either side, tie off

trim wing butts, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Thanks. Very nice SBS!! Looks like a fly that would work well in my spring creeks…
