Question

I love watching the TV show How It’s Made.
Tonight they showed how metal lures are made.
Pure Copper
Nickel Plated
Gold Plated
What step of the manufacturing process is omitted for the Gold Plated lures??
And Why?
Doug :?:

redacted,

I was surprised that the chicken feather is hand tied to a spinner (Mepps) treble hook.
I’ve seen so many things made with machines and robots, it’s interesting that actual people still do some of the manufacturing by hand.
I think the lures (Spoons/Wobblers) I watched being made were for Salmon fishing.
Doug

Keep watching for the repeat shows–I taped the one on fly tying . BILL

Taped?? They still make those things??

Is there ONE Metal Specialist out there that knows the obvious answer to this Question??? :?:
Doug

Doug,
Don’t know the answer to your question. If you like those kind of shows you will love this web site:

Eric,
Thanks for the site!
One more CLUE; It is the FINAL Step in the Lure making process. The Gold plated lure doesn’t need the Final Step.
WHY?
Doug

Because gold doesn’t tarnish.

Nickel, Brass, Silver and Copper tarnish.
Gold doesn’t, so the final step of putting Laquer on the metal lure is omitted for the gold plated lure.
Thanks Ol Blue for your correct answer!
Doug

Nickle Brass and copper will stick to my fingers. Gold doesn’t . Thats why I have no gold!

What did I win?

You might qualify to work at Fort Knox since Gold doesn’t stick to your hands.
And you didn’t win NUTHIN!
Ol Blue WON!
I’ve got a QUESTION! Since countries are getting paranoid about allowing foreign feathers over their borders, how about yous guys up in Canada keeping your Canadian Geese from flying down here!!!
Thanks for your cooperation!
Doug

But I like the Honkers Doug !

A couple weeks ago I was doing a Volkswalk in Beaverton. As I circled around a wooded Park, there were geese along the sidewalk and I heard CAR honking and at the intersection there was a HERD of Canadian geese crossing the road and blocking traffic.
Those drivers honked and honked but the geese OWNED that area and they couldn’t have cared less!!
Flocks of those birds fly over where I live, daily, and all I ever hear is HONK< HONK< HONK!!
I mean if you were the goose in charge of leading all those geese, wouldn’t you tell them to SHUT UP and let you lead???
Doug

Dinna anyone tell ya friend Doug? That’s the ‘inflight’ music program…kinda like smaltz or elevator music only they are too poor to hire it in so they sing it themselves… :))

Cheers,

MontanaMoose

I can tell they have no HARMONY!
Doug

Ah ! Ok, what you’ve been fortunate enough to experience is a new music genre carefully contrived by the younger Honkers Doug. This ‘music’ if you will, is referred to as ‘Cacophony’, defined by Merriam as ‘harsh or discordant sound’.

You’ll notice that in the ‘V’ formation, the older Honkers send the younger Honkers to the front. Look closely and you’ll see approximately 5 young Honkers at the head of the class so to speak. They don’t like it up front since it takes more effort to fly. (Old Honkers pretty smart huh?) What happens once there’s 5 young Honkers up front is really amazing when you think about it. They deliberately honk amongst themselves and all of them off key and out of time one to the next. The result is the ‘discordant’ sounds you hear.

Well, the older Honkers have, over the years, become irritable when it comes to anything but harmonized honking during a flight, prefering of course, the regular in flight musical program, so it doesn’t take long before the 5 off key and out of time younger Honkers are sent to the back of the V formation…where once there, but in very low tones, they can be heard cackling amongst themselves and I swear, when I see and hear this, it really sounds like laughter to me. So there you have it.

MontanaMoose

I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever heard that phrase directed toward me before. Too bad no prizes were involved…or were they?!? j/k

Ol’Blue ,Your’re absolutely right. I think it really behooves the author of the contest to supply prizes. Now who was it that started this…hmmm let me think…

HEY!!! Give some time to think about the prize!!!
