Punch yarn question

Yesterday I went to Michael’s and JoAnn Fabric looking for punch yarn. Both places looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. Not really knowing what punch yarn is I did find at Michael’s something called DMC Embroidery Floss. Is this the same as punch yarn?

I am by no means an expert here. But I do not think that the two while both for types of embroidery are the same. I could be wrong, and Jack Hise perhaps would be a better one to have the answer for this.

Now upon my educating myself, (love to find cheaper materials for the dh) I found a Lady who does sell the actual Cameo Brand (sorry if there is copyright infringement here) for 1.80 per 200 yds. PM me here if you want the link. Maybe if you emailed her directly she also could tell you if there is a difference in the two types of material… I think floss is floss and the Punch is Yarn.

I CERTAINLY COULD BE WRONG…sorry if I have put my foot in my mouth. 1.80 Sounds good ? Any of you know if I am mistaken ?

Punch yarn is very different from DMC E/F…

Here’s a picture of some punch yarn I spooled up…

Ducksterman,

Do you mind sharing your source for the yarn?

Tyronefly;
PM your mailing address. I have 17 colors and will send you some 5 yard spools.
I scored them some time ago, 200 yds skeins for a buck each. Punch yarn was popular about 30 years ago, You could punch it through plastic screens. sort of a paint by numbers craft.

Tyrone.I got it a number of years ago when Wal-Mart carried it…now it seems to be pretty much only available on the internet…I’m surprised someone hasn’t provided links…they usually do…I haven’t saved them but a google search should do it…maybe ebay too…

FYI

Source for punch embroidery yarn from a seach listing of previous bb posts. http://www.prettypunch.com/

That’s where I get mine. Cheap and a great tying product.

Does any one know where I can buy some empty spools so I can use a bobbin to tie with the punch yarn I have?

Wal-Mart…Michaels…to name two

Unfortunately the Michaels in my area does not carry the the yarn. I’ll locate a Wal-Mart and see what I find.

Thanks!

Sorry Tyrone…I was responding to this question.

Wal-Mart no longer has the yarn

Oops, my mistake. :oops:

Tyrone Fly: PM me your address and I’ll send you some samples.

If all else fails … Uni-Yarn and Wee wool (wee wool is by UTC), are the same thing. They cost a bit more than punch yarn, but are already on a spool, in managable amounts, and in great flytying colors.

Panman and Betty,

Thanks!

I find ebay a good cheap place to get my punch yarn. John

Jack, Can I buy about 17 spools off of you (1 per color)? If so, then I could pick it up the next time that we meet. I think that I am going to try my luck on the Caney Fork on Monday morning. Are you interested?

Ed

Ed;
I’ll put up some 3 yard coils for you.
Where are you going to be on the Caney Fork? I’d like to come over.
