Pumps

I am about to pull the trigger on an inflatable personal watercraft (either a Scadden Outlaw Renegade or a WaterMaster) and I need some guidance on pumps. I have no experience with inflatable watercraft yet and I am not sure exactly what I need in the pump area. Should I get one of the K-Pumps? If so, what size? What about one of the electric pumps that you hook up to you car battery? Are they worth it or can you inflate the boat quickly enough with a hand or foot pump? Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Coleman hand pump for my Fishcast LCS4 and it works fine. Probably less than 5 minutes. Personally I would not go to the additional effort to hook something up to a battery or have to be sure dry cells are up in an electric pump. I used an stationary electric compressor on my pontoon so I can’t really speak responsibly of that. I like having a pump that will work downstream also, just in case.

see post 12 for a link to the pump that hooks up to your car battery. cheapest on the web. same pump as those sold for alot more money

If my boat is completely deflated, I use a 12 Volt pump then top it off with a K-pump. I have pumped up float tubes all the way with the K-pump and it’s not too bad, but for a bigger pontoon I’d rather use some power. Most of the time I carry my boats around at least partly inflated and only use the K-pump. The K-pump is simple and indestrucable but not cheap. The smaller K-pump would probably be easier to stow on a boat like the Outlaw Renegade.

Ok - I’m hijacking this thread - pay attention and nobody will get hurt.

I know this will not help everyone but I made my own pump setup from an Aerobed that blew its seam. I cut the valve out of the Aerobed and made an adapter to the hose of my foot pump from PVC pipe. I have tested it and it pumps up the 4 bladders of my float tube in a couple minutes. I have both a rechargeable and AC pump for my Aerobeds so I can prepump before a trip or do everything at lakeside, topping off with the foot pump. I just got a new laptop so pics are a problem right now but hope to be able to post some soon for those that would like to see the setup. Maybe need some help from you guys/gals on posting pics too.

I know not everyone has an old Aerobed around(why have I kept that blown out one for the past two years?)but I found the rechargeable pump at a thrift store for $3 and will be keeping my eye out now for Aerobeds and pumps from now on.

PS - If anyone is interested in the pics rightaway PM me and I will send them to you in an email.

I bought one of those two way pumps at Wal-Mart for my pontoon. It took a while but did the job, however the next time I used the pump it became a one way pump!?! :frowning: I took it back and got one of the pumps you hook up to a car battery. It works great and is very quick although it is noisy. Somehow a picturesque sunrise on the water is ruined by the high pitch whine of that pump. :stuck_out_tongue: But at least its quick.
