"Project Spey"

I figured I’d post this here since I thought you spey guys would probably get a kick out of watching this as its being redone.

A good friend of mine from Canada and I are leaving for a few day steelhead trip on Thanksgiving day and we plan to head to my cabin and fish the Au Sable hard for a few days with the spey rods. So I needed a spey to do that…so I ended up picking up a same as new TFO Pro series spey. But anyone that knows me knows I can never leave anything alone. Even though this spey rod was basiclly brand new and not a scratch on it. For the past 2 months that I’ve had it sitting in the basement waiting for this steelhead trip I keep looking at it sitting in the rack and getting the urge to customize it. So after finishing up a bunch of customer rods over the past few days…well lets just say I gave in to temptation tonight lol

And the start of getting down to business!

I only have about 7 weeks to finish this rod (which will have to be worked on just in between customer rods when I have spare few minutes here&there). But I plan to strip it down to the bare blank, Redo the grips with Copano, Burnt, and bamboo cork, maybe change out the reel seat to a REC seat with a York Gum insert, and most certianly change the wraps & trim as well as most everything else except reusing the guides.

More to follow as progress is made-

Steve , your a sick pup just like me…LOL I cant leave anything alone either.
Continue on , so we can watch the progression of another master piece…Ed

I should be tying flies for a salmon trip I’m leaving for tomorrow, but I couldnt leave not knowing if I was going to be able to get the seat off or have to leave it on and be stuck with it. So…

No I can leave with a clear mind;)
