Preska Sedge

Saw this pattern mentioned on another forum; did an interweb search and found it in Pequegnot’s French Fishing Flies: Patterns and Recipes for Fly Tying. Original called for condor or eagle quill body, neither of which is legal in the U.S. so I subbed biot. Note the wings are tied in vertical orientation, Killer-style.

body - turkey biot dark brown

hackle - brown

Nice fly Scott. What is dark portion under hackle? Doesn’t look like turkey biot.

Thanks. That’s actually the hackle; darker at the base, probably more of a furnace than brown saddle.

Scott

Preska Sedge (variation?)

Based on this link the wings are a pair of pheasant rump feathers tied tent-style; same name, different look.

rib - small tinsel gold
body - dubbing hare’s ear
wing - pheasant rump
hackle - brown

I think I’d clean it up a little and taper the body like a Hornberg…

This guy was happy enough with it as is, so I don’t think I’ll bother cleaning anything up, thanks.

Scott
