Wow guys and gals, we had quite a blow here on Sunday. A lot of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky got hit hard by hurricane Ike. Nearly 1,000 miles inland, we were hit by near category 1 hurricane winds. As of this evening, there are over 500,000 people still without power in the Cincinnati area.
For about 6 hours Sunday we had 60 mph sustained winds with gusts nearing 80. The airport clocked a max gust of 78mph.
We have a lot of trees down and a number of homes were heavily damaged. 6 fatalities are blamed on the storm in our area alone.
After Sunday, I’ve made up my mind, I have no desire to live close to the gulf coast.
Our power came back on this afternoon.
Prayres out to all the folks who were impacted by this storm.
It was crazy. Sometimes we’ll get a gust or two from a thunderstorm like that and once in a while, a winter storm will blow all night at 30-35mph but nothing like this.
Glad to here you made it! We got the same up here. Lost some shingles on the roof and the power was out a couple of days. Still have many place with out juice and not likely to get it back before the weekend. The only up side is the weather is nice and I don’t have to cover the roof with the infamous blue plastic. Wish I had some, but fortunately it doesn’t look like I’ll need it for a least a few more days.
This areas around here reminds me a little of the damage I saw in South Florida in '03 when I was working with FEMA on the Blue Roof Teams. Wish I had found a way to ship some of that home and kept it in storage. Who’d have ever thought we’d need it up here!
My heart goes out to all of you in TX, LA, & MS who bore the brunt of this storm. At least we were spared the rains. Good luck to all and thanks to all the electrical workers who have come north to help us get the power back on.
