Posting pics

How do full sized pics inside my post instead of just thumbnails at the very end?

Fish

That answer, and many others, are in the “FAQ” link at the top of the page. However, since most of us are men, and reading the instructions does not come naturally to us, I will copy that here…

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the ‘Attachment Icon’ and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the ‘Insert Image’ icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

Now for my addition:

If you have your photos on a website like photobucket, there should be a URL somewhere near the photo that says “IMG code”. If you copy and paste that code into the text of your post, the full sized picture will appear. Bear in mind that this also means that anyone reading the thread has to wait for the photo to load and if it is wider than the screen then it runs off to the right, as do all the following posts, which, personally, I find annoying.

Photobucket lets you put thumbnails here as well, that link to full-sized pics that will appear as popup windows. I much prefer this method, as it is faster to load and readers do not HAVE to look at my full-sized photos if they do not want to.

I agree with DG, one should always try to post thumbnails first if possible.

I disagree with DG and Bass_Bug. One should always post a full size pic as long as it fits within the normal screen size.

Having said that (just to be disagreeable for a change ) - hugefish_80, send me a PM if you would like an outline how to post full size pics within your post using www.photobucket.com.

John, what is “normal screen size”? How many pixels wide is the BB frame? Do all of us have our monitors set at the same resolution? Do we even know what our resolution IS?

I for one am not going to resize a photo just to fit on this BB. Sooooooo easy to just…

John, Curious as to your preference. Care to explain your reasoning? As DG stated, just because we post something doesn’t mean everyone will WANT to look at it. Posting thumbnails is a consideration to everyone else. People that have the choice and choose to only post full size are pretty much inconsiderate by definition.

That would be me, I guess.

Having said that, on a recent thread that had to do with this subject, rather than the one hugefish_80 raised, which is how to do it, a LOT of folks expressed their preference for having the full size pics within the posts, rather than the thumbnails. And a LOT of people do it that way as a matter of course. So I guess there are a LOT of inconsiderate people on the BB, by your definition.

Having said that, I don’t consider anyone inconsiderate for using the method they choose to use.

I do consider someone considerate when they offer help to hugefish_80 on how to do what he wants to do. That also would be me.

Those who WANT TO DO WHAT HUGEFISH_80 ASKED FOR HELP TO DO, figure out all that technical stuff. Seems to work nicely for a bunch of folks who regularly post the larger size pics on the BB.

It is just fine with me if you have your preference and do it the way you like to do it. I would rather see the larger pics as a matter of routine than do the “click and wait -view and close window” thing, especially with your pics which are always interesting and of high quality.

John

I think we should argue this over a beer at the Idaho fish-in, John. That would be a lot more fun!

That being said…

Hugefish, did your question get answered to your satisfaction? 'Cause if it did, John and I can stop poking each other and get back to having cabin fever and wishing the snow would start falling. If not, I recommend taking him up on his offer of personalized assistance.

PS To maintain my dignity and fool people into thinking I am a good photographer, I only show the best pictures, not the 95% that are blurry, have thumbs in them, have small fish, show my secret spot in the background, or in many cases, all of the above. Or include the lens cap…

PPS on my screen that covers about 60% of the width of the frame, at 600 pixels wide…

when using photobucket try this

posting fotos as an attachment (fotos from your hard drive)

scroll down in your post to find the “additional options” area

hopefully eveybody knows the right click, copy and paste routine!

:mrgreen:nice job normad great tutoral that should be a stickie in the faq section

Very cool and concise presentation of a couple of the options.

Thanks.

John

Here is another hint that can help eliminate over/under sized pictures or links that don’t work.

If you have a picture or a link in your post before you click on the button that submits your post click on the button to the right that says “Preview Post”. When that comes up you can easily tell if your photo is the right size and if your link works.

I am going to work on posting a report of my trip to Branson this evening…Thats y I wanted to learn about posting full sized pics. It was not my intention to start ya’ll off squabbleing and name calling about posting prefernces. Personally I prefer larger pics in the thread as opposed to thumbnails at the end, but thats just me. Honestly, if I like what I am reading or I am interested in the topic then the minor inconvienience of have to wait for a pic to load or a new window to open is exactly that, and certainly not worth getting my undies in a bunch over…

That being said, I’m going ice fishing. I’ll see you guys after I get home…
