I know it’s just a little thing but it would be more convenient if folks when they post the links to their pictures would leave off the [IMG] at each end…then it appears as an active link and one click does it…no copy/paste necessary…in photobucket for example it is even one of the choices…
Yes…it’s since then…it would be just a little thing to make this transition time a little easier…again …not a big deal but if people know I’m sure they would do it :roll:
I have turned the goodies back on. I have also blocked any new members from joining. I can not keep up with the porn. Until we figure out something else, it will be admin. author. only. Damn sorry.

Well, the kids that want porn will find it; just not here. Every member of FAOL has standards. I am just trying too uphold them. My IT guy, Ron, is spending a few days in a ‘sleep clinic’. He has had a problem with sleep apnea for many years and is looking for some improvement. Until he returns, I have jammed this thing. Hope I don’t screw up too badly. Have fun
It’s tough. And it’s getting global.
We’re no longer dealing with high school or college kids that are bored and found a way she/he and their buddy can disrupt and have a giggle. Nor is it a case where someone will pay a kid a penny a mail to send spam to addresses.
A lot of this crap is coming from overseas. At work, I just deleted 1,500 emails that overloaded our blocker and came through. All of it was trash spam that came from Korea, Taiwan, and Brazil. That was this week. I’m sure next week we can add more countries.

I support your action of blocking new members until a better solution is found. I was wondering about the other fisherman/women that would like to join the site. Wouldn’t be a good idea to post a notification regarding this issue, so they could join latter?

By ‘jammed’ I mean, it is Admin. Auth. only. I am the one approving the new members. So far, I have blocked quite a few porn guys trying to sign up as members. And you all have the ‘goodies’ back on. Enjoy…

You have to do what you have to do. Its a shame that you and Ron have to go through what you do. I for one am very thankful for all that has been done on everyone’s behalf.
Would charging a small fee to belong stop the people who get on free to spam? I send money to you anyway. I don’t mind a small fee. Wouldn’t that stop the freeloaders? Seems to me the site is big enough…that a fee might lose a few…might stop some truly new interested person…but the site has a lot of people anyway. $5 to join…and $5 a year subscription wouldn’t hurt anybody, and bring in more income for the board. Of course…then you have to handle all the stuff that paying and membership administrivia. Then you aggravate sponsors…oh well…just a thought
I think Gemrod’s idea has merit however I don’t have any idea about the legal aspects, etc, of implementing such an endeavor.
Perhaps all of your who enjoy this site and are not “Friends of FAOL” considering joining up. Just click on “Friends of FAOL” whick is located on the menu of the FAOL home page.

:shock: I am tired of paying for everything under the sun and would not join a site if they charged a sign up fee. I also have no faith in online financial transactions and their safety and related privacy issues.
There are many other boards that do just what JC has done. Admin authorized members only. Sure it takes longer but it works in the vast majority of cases. The suggestion of restricting image posting, for sale posts etc… to members with a minimum number of posts is also common to many of the other BBs I visit.
I’m happy there is no porn getting through now, that I’ve seen anyways. Thanks JC, LF, JH, and Ron.
Gang, I’m bustin’ my butt on this thing. YOu have no idea how many are ‘signing up’. This admin. auth. will work for a while. We have some things we are in the process of doing, might take a couple of weeks. I appreciate all the ideas, even the offer of money (duh, like, who wouldn’t??) but, we will never charge and I will not let the *&@^%$ keep us from running.
I predicted there would be some go away. I can’t believe someone wouldn’t pay $5 a year for FAOL. Unbelievable.
Wouldn’t have to be online transaction. I sent them a check for last year. Fixin’ to send one for this year.
I would pay more than $5 just to help the board and JC and company. Was just trying to help by eliminating some of the non serious or spammers. Board is plenty loaded with good people.
Just a thought. No big deal. If I think of anything else…I will post it also. I am quite used to sticking my neck out and getting my head handed back to me on a silver platter…sometimes a paper plate! But I keep on doing it. duh
