hi guys, i was bangin’ out some bees, and got bored… kinda like this guy, figured i would share…
You asked for it, so, here is my favorite yellow and black fly. I do not know if it represents anything or not, but, it sure catches a lot of fish for me!
Size 8 hook
Yellow punch yarn body
Black punch yarn pulled over the back
Pheasant Tail Herl for tail material
Olive Grizzly Cock Saddle Patch palmered through body
12 wraps of .020 lead under body on hook shank
I’ve caught a lot of fish on this one: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw/060500fotw.php
both nice flies guys… warren, looks like a woolly bugger wariant to me.
i was looking through your other pics… nice humming bird ornaments

I can’t say I’ve dressed or used many Black and Yellow flies, excepting the Montana Nymph,
but here is a Black and Yellow, wire body Spider I dressed a few months ago.
Due to inattention when dressing, I ended up with a nicely plumping body.
There is only one layer of wire, the under-body of black silk gave the shape.
I have never actually fished this fly, the old legs are not what they were, but I got a lot of
positive re-actions on the Flymphforum.
I’ve been off looking for the recipe, here it is plus some comments on the body.
Black and Yellow Spider
Hook: Size 12 Capt Hamilton Wet
Thread: Black
Body: Black & Hot Yellow wire alternating
Thorax: Black mole
Hackle: Black hen
That nice looking taper came about when I tied in the ends of the wires,
the under layer was so lumpy and uneven that I just filled in all the hollows and
made it look tidy before wrapping the wire, pure serendipity.
spoof85,
Thanks for the kind words. I also have tied the same pattern but made the body out of orange punch yarn and it has worked well for me too. The Humming Bird ornament is something that I get requests for every year from people wanting them for Christmas presents to give out. The tying instructions can be found here on FAOL:

ive tied a couple before thanks for the link though.
i tied this guy for my mother-in-laws birthday
Hi,
This is my favorite black and yellow pattern, Pritt’s Water Cricket. Yellow floss body, black rib (tag end of the tying thread), starling for the hackle. This has been a general go to pattern for me for years now. I submitted it back in 2009 as a fly of the week.
