Why is it that whenever someone has a positve comment about a company or product so many BB members feel an obligation to jump in with their negative comments? The recent comments about Orvis are a good example. Let the positive comments stand. They won’t hurt you. If you feel a need to be negative start a new topic. There is plenty of room in the world for some positive input.
Hi Bluehackle,
While I agree with you to a point, that is not to say, if I have had an experience
different than yours, I will not differ with
you. Nature of the beast. We see something
we have knowledge of, we are gonna voice
our opinion. Not all opinions are the same.
Maybe they delt with you on a good day and
I caught them when their septic tank ran
over. Who knows. But we all have hearfelt
opinions on many things and are just looking
for a chance to air them. Warm regards, Jim
I think that if a guy wants to make a positive comment then let him, there is no need to tear him down.
Hey Gringo,
Who’s tearing anybody down? Yes, if
someone has something good to say about an
outfit, sure pat them on the back. It’s the
kind of info we like to know. But if I put
company XYZ on a pedistal for their service
to me, someone whose experience was totally
different from mine certainly has the right
to comment. Thats what happens on BB’s.
We share info, opinions, and thoughts, and
none are held holy above all others. If
there was a policy of allowing only positive
statements, how valuable would they be to us
not knowing any negatives that might exist?
Warm regards, Jim
Jim;
This is a real life BB and being a sort of newbie (started flyfishing in 71 but didn’t understand it til 2000!!). The pros and cons of a product/manufacturer are very important to me. I WANT to see other opinions/experiance/results of products. It’s why I visit here often.
Cactus
Hey Jack,
Your ahead of me buddy. I took up fly
fishing in 1956 and I still don’t understand
it all.G
Couldn't agree more. Pro's and Con's
based on sincere opinions of fellow FAOLers
are valuable to me. Product bashing however
helps no one. Just a sincere opinion from
a known name on the boards or chat can go a
long way in helping me in purchase decisions. Lots of us don’t have the
opportunity to compare products in fly shops
or talk to the folks on the streams. I’d
still be using a breambuster if I had to
rely on local input.G Warm regards, Jim
Jim - Excuse my in-nor-ance; what’s breambuster??
Don
Proves my point. Even a comment about positive comments results in opposing or negative comments. That’s ok. No matter where you go there you are.
Jim - you are right of course, and I appreciate your comments. The key is whether it is reasonable or not, as you said. I think JC knows what I am referring to, sometimes I read a post where somebody starts out positive and balanced and then the thread gets “taken over” by the negative views of somebody else. Its hard to explain, but I’m sure we would agree if we were all together talking.
Hey Beadleach,
Never seen a breambuster? Jeez! It is
the state of the art replacement for the
old cane fishing pole. High zoot glass or
graphite, telescoping sections, pre rigged
with line, hook, splitshot and bobber.G
Pure high tech!G Warm regards, Jim
Well I’ll bet the opposite is true as well. If someone posts that they had a problem with ABC company there will be those who will post how they love them.
You can’t be serious about starting two separate threads. That IMHO is a tad bit on the silly. Oh damn. Now that wasn’t very postitive was it. Sorry.
Jim -
That’s what happens when you start flyfishing when ur in grade school, I guess. Ya miss all the hi-teck in-o-vations in fishing!! Tks for enlightening me. <<G>>
Donald
There are pro’s and con’s and then there is bashing. I think we can recognize it when we see it [although it’s harder then when we are actually talking].
Why not just leave out the gd bashing?
