Looks like the Portland, Oregon Fly Fishing Show has been cancelled until next year. Bummer.
http://www.flyfishingshowwest.com/ I wonder why it says “postponed” instead of canceled?
Doug
Maybe it has something to do with AFFTA??
Copied and pasted from the website.

The most challenging aspect of producing The fly Fishing Show is finding a perfect facility and the best show dates. At best, the desirable convention halls have one weekend and sometimes none open in the winter show months. So a show has little control and must take what is available. That?s what happened for 2008 in Portland. The weekend we had in 2007 was not open in 2008 because someone had booked it before we even had our first show. Unfortunately, after the only weekend available in 2008 was accepted and contracted, I found out that the same weekend the long running O?Loughlin sportsmen show was also taking place.
I didn?t have any opportunity to change my dates. This week, after several negotiations I was able to forward my deposit from 2008 to a new and better date in 2009! Since I was able to change our future show date in 2009 to January 24th & 25th, I?m sure our event will be better for everyone without the conflicting weekend against the sportsmen show. So for 2008 the show will postponed until our better time slot in 2009. Sorry for this inconvenience, but it will be better to have a stronger show in 2009 and not a smaller show in 2008. I hope you?ll be able to attend another of our west coast shows and look forward to seeing you in Portland in 2009.
Sincerely,
Chuck Furimsky
Well, Bellvue, is not too far. Sweetstreams. Might hook up with M Moose to do a road trip and fish too.
it probably wont be long before he cancels the fly fishing show in marlboro, mass, if his show continues to be a total rehash year after year after year. its the the same old exhibitors bringing in the same old stuff they couldnt get rid of the year before. the same old programs just reshuffled to different days. this guy needs to rethink his shows a bit more than he does. needs to get revitalized.
Any of you Oregon folks that come up for the show on Saturday, VEE and I will be wandering around looking for any bargains to be had. Look for a long haired pudgy guy wearing a brown Stetson. Oh yeah, I’ll be with a very attractive woman who loves bamboo rods.
REE
Oregonians don’t forget the Northwest Fly Tyer and Fly Fishing Expo. http://www.nwflytyerexpo.com/
It’s always great.
REE;
You’d be EASIER to “spot” (if I can make the show), IF you wore your “HRM Betty Supplied-FAOL Hat”!?! And, by the way, what’s “a very attractive girl that loves bamboo”, doing… hanging out with you? The poor lady!
Speaking of shows. One of the best is in Idaho Falls on April 18 and 19.
Great show, free admission.
The website is srcexpo.com/. The website shows last year’s program. I have been told it will be updated sometime after their organizational meeting on Feb. 7.
Po
Hey Backcastwards…yeah? Are we doin’ Bellevue? Also, I gotta find out about the Reedsport FF Festival…that’s usually sometime in Feb.
Cheers,
MontanaMoose
Flybinder,
The poor young lady is married to this old reprobate. Still thanking my lucky stars for that one.
REE
Well, REE, she either has a VERY SOFT HEART, and should be commended for that, or ya’ caught her in a VERY weak moment!??!
Regardless, I HOPE to make the show, (I may be there, tying with, or helping out, Henry Hoffman), and getting to meet you, and this lovely bamboo fanatic!?!
Moose,
Reedsport show is the 23rd of February.
Sweet
SweetSS, “where”, “how much” and “what times”, is/are, the Reedsport show, please?
Fly B,
The show is a one day at the Reedsport highschool. 2260 Longswood Dr. Reedsport, OR. I don’t know if there is a charge or not. I don’t think they have a website.
SweetS
Thanks Sweet, so I just marked Saturday, Feb. 23 on my ‘must attend’ list and calendar. Great little event.
Hello flybinder, there’s not been a charge any of the times I’ve gone which includes last year, even as an exhibitor. I’ll show up fairly early and help some friends carry stuff inside so for me it’s prolly going to be 8am, maybe earlier…biscuits and gravy was ok, free lectures, casting instruction in the porta-pond, (you don’t need that of course, just sayin’ for other eyes) quite a few tyers, usually some cane builders, some vendors, lots of local talent including some of the ‘legends of the Umpqua’. Plenty of parking too. Hope you and other FAOL’ers can make it !
Cheers,
MontanaMoose
Sweet and Montana, thank you, both, for the great info!!
M-Moose, you cracked me up, “apologizing” for making the “casting pool” comment!! Seriously, fly fishing for 30 odd years, DOESN’T make me a “good caster”, THAT’S evident from ALL my fishing buddies!! ha!
EVERY SHOW, I attend, I will always hit the casting pools, to pick up any and all, techniques and tricks might find there. Because, if I ever begin to think I can “stop learning”, to cast, tie, present a fly… I’ll quit and take up knitting!
Hope, to see you both there!
Well hey flyb, it’s not like I’ve been sitting here not crackin’ up too at a lot of your antics ya know ! I’m constantly checking threads with your name in them just because I know I’ll have to tape my sides back together after reading some of your gems.
Oh, I know what you mean about the learning curve…shoot, I’ve just been at this for a few years and I gotta say, I always learn something and not only when I go to the ponds but everytime I open FAOL too.
Here’s something that will help you if all else fails though…hope you get something out of it !

See you in Reedsport friend !

MontanaMoose;
Gee, THANKS, for such a GREAT link!! As if I don’t have ENOUGH “Women’s Voice” around the house as it is? Plus, I clicked on one of their links, posted as “Fishing”, just to see what might come up and THIS is what I got as their board’s topic of discussion…
(Quote)- What’s the best brand and make of soft plastic?
Answer:(i.e. YUM craw papi or Yamamoto Senko)
Yeppers, M-Moose, you REALLY know “how to pick 'em”, thanks!
As soon as I can find my keys, I’m headed to my local fly shop and stock up on; “YUM Craw Papi”! (I don’t feel confident enough, to be honest with you, to even try “Yamamoto Senko”!?!
