I was just trying to figure out with only 28yds of line, not much to work with with, the Fairplay line you had a link too. Unless I’m missing something here?? 28yds I’d be casting the backing too ?? Or this just used for very short distance casting?
Darn, must be in the “Dumb” mode today … 28yds, that’s about 85feet … not sure what I was thinking off !!

Right some can swing it out 85feet…I am not one of them. Work on a solid comfortable cast 35’ or less and you will be good.
30-40ft is about my best right now, and still working on more accuracy. been told that using the “hauls” can increase your casting distance, but haven’t mastered that yet, still perfecting my basics

I was casting some poppers last weekend with my 5wt. I had great difficulty getting any distance on the saltwater-sized foam poppers that look like a “Rebel Pop-R” (if you know what that looks like?). But the smaller pencil poppers and even the good-sized Crease Flies were fairly easy to cast.

wow … that’s a big popper for sure, seen those before. the ones I’ve been using look similar to these

a friend of mine, gave me about a dozen of these poppers, sizes #2 & #6, and my 5wt handled them pretty well, but still working on my casting technique to get more accurate and some distance. but I’m having a ball just fishing, even if I may look like a real clown in the process … but who cares :rolleyes:
