Poppers vs. trout

By my cabin there is a pond that has a creek feeding into it and then out the back (man made pond) it is at about 6000 ft if that matters?.. well it has german browns in it, decent size, 20-25 in. range… do you guys think that they would go for poppers?

ive had trout hit poppers. give it a try. its the only way you’ll find out.

about what size where the fish/poppers?

youre asking me to remember?

they were the small poppers for panfish and the trout were 10-12 inches. the lake is stocked with trout and is mostly a bass and panfish lake.

something like this

Anything is possible!

sounds like a good time to try the Morrish mouse.

You have a pond with 20-25 inch Browns?

Only way to determine if they wil take my poppers is to invite me out to personally test them.

They will certainly take streamers of some sort

I don’t want to steel this thread but look at one of the poppers above: http://www.anglersdream.net/flyitem.asp?sku=10451

This is a professional store and do you see the eyes?
I don’t want to sound arrogant but my grandchild could paint them better!!!
There, I’ve said it, shame on me.

its tough to be perfect

Tell me about it

They are only a buck fifteen, so I wouldn’t expect alot…

Joe Brooks wrote about popper fishing for browns in Argentina a long time ago…Give it a shot.

yes true… i got them for bass (never fished for bass before and were cheap) and i have never used them, trip fell through, and didnt want to not use them.

Poppers, hair bugs, mice, dahlberg divers, sliders: they all work for trout under the right circumstances in stillwaters and rivers.

ive caughten a few by popping a humpy fly, im guessing to the same affect as a popper. you also might want to try a bobby fly, apparently they work well in still waters

what is that?

I’ve had 'em hit strike indicators. Sure, they’ll hit a #8 or 10 yellow popper.

I get them on Gartside Gurglers and Morrish Mouse flies at night. Give your poppers a try. As far as color goes…at night…anything, as long as it’s black. #4’s

I also like using George Harvey’s Pusher (Night) Fly. #2 - 2/0 They leave a nice wake.
