Poppers and divers

Just finished this batch up. Plan to use them in fresh water and salt water.

Those look great!

What did you use for the front lip?
Mike

Very nice work! I really like the divers. How’s the action on retrieve?

Jim Smith

The lip is part of the foam body. I picked up the foam template at tying class last spring, and used it to make my own foam pieces. I’ll see if I still have the template, I may have used it for one of them, and take a picture.

I have no idea how the action will be. I’m a bit lame right now and probably won’t get a chance to test them for at least a month. I tied either a piece of a worm weight or a rattle on the bottom of the hook shank behind the hook eye. I dropped them in a container of water, and they ride straight and the lip is sitting below the surface. I think the lip is wide enough so the fly won’t twist when I retrieve, and I may have to play with the tail. I used half a dragon tail for them and haven’t decided whether to let them soak up water or try and waterproof them.

Thanks,
Mike!

The Jan/Feb copy of “tail” has the lip template in it. displays till 03/09/20. I have a copy that I will reduce etc to try different sizes. I have the FLU in my house now, so it will be a while before I can make up some. A copy of the Magazine is best but if you can not find one PM me.

Jim, is your mailboc full again? I sent a message and wanted to make sure you had gotten it.
