My wife and I will be in Dunedin over the Thanksgiving holidays visiting her mother and sisters. Her mom owns the Dunedin Fish Market.
We want to do some fly fishing while we’re there, but we DO NOT want to wade! So we need to find someone with a flats boat who fly fishes that area. I will be writing about this, too. We would not mind paying for gas or something like that for the privelege. But we simply cannot afford $300-400 for a professional guide trip.
If anyone is interested in hooking us up or knows someone who might be, we sure do appreciate any and all assistance. Fly fishing doesn’t seem to be the crowd my mother-in-law deals with. So I’m having to do dig for this one.
Apparently, I insulted Capt. Buddy from Tampa Bay with this post. He sent me 2 very nasty emails about “scams like FAOL and scam artists like me looking for freebies.” It was not my intention to insult anyone. And I did receive several very polite and helpful emails from other charter captains down there, including one who is excited about taking us out for redfish and snook. And we are really looking forward to fishing with him.
Think about renting a kayak there in Dunedin. They have them right on the beach on the south side of the causeway just before Honeymoon Island. Go west from the kayak rental place, then north under the bridge then left to oyster bars, sea grasses and mangroves.
Weekdays would be best as weekends out there can get busy.
Thanks for the advice. That is something that would interest me. I actually already knew about the kayak place, but it never dawned on me. I’m glad you reminded me.
We’ve actually had offers now from four flats fly fishing charter captains down there. We’re gonna pick two of them, and I think we already have: Nature Coast trip out of Port Richey and sightfishing to Redfish near Safety Harbor. Both Captains are licensed by USCG, 1 is also IGFA certified, and the other was invited to become IGFA certified and is doing that now. Both have lots of experience, great equipment, good reputations/references, are dedicated almost exclusively to fly fishing, and have communicated excellently with us. So we’re really excited about this trip. The kayak thing is a GREAT idea for future trips. But I doubt we’ll have time for it this fall.
