Pill Float Popper

Below is a picture of a easy popper that is constructed with a pill float on an 6x long size 10 hook. Small enough for a blue gill or other panfish. The construction is easy, just be careful that you don’t stick yourself when you thread the hook through the popper. A little super glue & your imagination leaves you with unlimited patterns waiting to be created.

Great tip. That looks easy to use. Where would one find these “pill floats”?

Dave: Pill floats are better known as rig floats. They are used to keep your walleye bait up off the bottom and come in various sizes. The one in the picture is about the same size as a tylonel pill. I got some of mine from a fellow FAOL member and also bought some at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Cabela’s sells them as do many others to include E-Bay. You can also get those from Jann’s Netcrafts too, here in the US save a little on shipping from CA

Hi Tim,

What a great idea! Would you send one to Gretchen and me and we’ll publish it in Fly Fish America magazine (if it’s ok with you). You can get our address and “fly-submit-information” on our Web site. Take care & …
