Pictures of our new oil-less deep fryer

Hi folks,
just a few snaps of the new Char-Broil Oil-Less turkey and deep fryer we bought:

Note how close I am to the fryer. In this next one you will see my size 13 EEE’s right up to the fryer. You would not want to do this with an oil fryer. That bird has only been in there mere minutes and is beginning to brown. You could smell it and hear it sizzle!

Hope you enjoy the photos. We will let you know how it tastes! Turkey for dinner tonight! I think I hear the Knepp’s coming over the mountain.

Looks like a pretty good buy so far. MMMMMM, on the shot looking right down into it, I could smell that turkey!

Poo I can’t see the pic. Be sure to give us an update on how the bird turns out.

Pssst nighthawk…you might want to close the curtains .

I think Wild one is a lot closer to you than you think he is . He’s close enough to smell the bird. You may have a stalker my friend.

Ps. as I cannot seem to get the pic to come up on my puter. Can you tell me the weight of the bird?

That was fuuuunnnyyyy !!! Thanks for the shout -out !! Hope that turkey turned out good…we may have to come for Thanksgiving… lol !!

You have a PM!

All of you are welcome at our table anytime! We have to get together and hopefully Amy will be recovered by Thanksgiving.

Eric,
At risk of repeating myself from an earlier post/reply, you have to let me know how the drippings collected. When i read the description, of this fryer, it mentioned a grease tray but no drip pan. Sometimes the cooking process is too hot for drippings other than grease . In any case let me know, and ,enjoy that turkey.

Mark

Mark,
Here you go buddy. The pan sat outside in 45 degree F weather until it was stone cold. There was probably at least 3 cups of very liquid juices, drippings and grease. Probably95% liquid.

14 pound bird took about 1Hr. 50 min. to cook. Basted skin only once just prior to cooking with a baste of melted butter, olive oil, onion powder and garlic powder.
Did not use any injectable marinade this time but will next time around. Skin is crunchy but dry, still tasty. The meat was just delicious! Very juicy and tender! As I suspected this is more like combination of fryer and rotisserie cooker. Some experimenting is in order. This fryer should be just the ticket for those of us watching our weight and cholesterol. So far I love it!!!

Best review was from Amy. She could smell the bird cooking two blocks away at the post office! Says it is yummy!!

Eric,
Thank You for the effort ( pictures etc.) to answer my question. Based on that, I’m off to Lowes.

Thanks again,

Mark

Wow, that looks great, thanks for sharing your experience, may have to try one of these!

Glad it turned out good…and I hope she is recovered by Thanksgiving too…is everything okay…Keeping you both in our thoughts and prayers…

Good, that was a very useful review.
I can now shop for one with confidence. I will have to stop at Lowes on my way to the new Cabellas Grand Opening in Post falls next week to pick one up. ( only 6 more sleeps ) Thanks for the very helpful pic .

Was getting the bird out of the basket a problem as was feared?

I too am Keeping Amy and You in my prayers.

Ps. Why was the bird cooking two blocks away at the post office.

I gnu that.

Eric,
I’m stickin’ with my fryer & oil!..When I bowled, I came close, but never got that elusive 300…maybe I can do it in cholesterol!!! LOL!!

Glad you’re enjoying the new toy. If you need a nice stainless injector, PM me. I bought one when I got my fryer & have never used it…the dry rub I put inside & out has been so good that I never felt the need to inject.
Mike

Sounds like success! Nice.

I don’t blame you especially since your fryer isn’t that old. There is nothing wrong with them but having worked around oil fryers for so long in the restaurants just the smell of the oil turns my stomach. I had a filter machine break down on me and we were forced to empty the restaurant fryers by hand one time. My night shift manager got in a hurry and spilled very hot fry grease on his legs and feet. The burns were ugly and painful but, for the swift actions of his fellow employees, not fatal. Ugly scars though.

I like the fried foods but not the way they get fried. I think this is going to be a great way to get that taste without the expensive oil, messy clean up, filters, risk of burns, risk of fire and risk of allergic reactions to foods fried in oils. Add to that the fact that this appears to be a healthier way for those of us watching our weight/cholesterol, even the best oils still have trans fats and saturated fats in them, and I was sold. I was also willing to take the risk of this being a bad product for the benefit of everyone interested in deep frying turkey.

Thanks all and Mike, you have a PM.

Probably a really dumb question … but … can you cook/fry anything else, other than turkey, in that fryer? <it’s still relatively early, and I’ve only had one cup of coffee today. what was that post about brain dead?>

This thing is so new that right now Char Broil only has meat recipes for it. However, the use of a simple fry basket should allow the fryer to do fires, steam veggies (wrap them in Reynolds Wrap first) and other foods. For battered foods I would say line the basket with aluminum foil. It is not necessary to keep the lid on so use of a small basket, the fryer only has a large meat basket, should not be a problem. It uses infrared heat instead of oil or direct flame to cook, much like a convection oven only no fan, so doing other foods should not be a problem.

I am at home sick right now but soon as I get better I am going to experiment with this new fryer.

OK, you guys are makin’ me hungry, … I think a batch of meat for the water smoker is in order.
