Montana Trout Flies - George F Grant

Love this old time fly. It still catches fish for me. I’ve always tied my bodies with peacock herl, but I’m going to try some silver or gold tinsel.

I tie a much smaller version of this fly using woodchuck guard hair for both the wing and tail, and peacock for the body and head. It is a killing pattern for me in the early season when Caddis are prevalent.

Wasn’t this fly somehow connected to the marmot?
