new step by step here
Very nice variation of the pt
[b]Here are a couple of step by step instructions on tying a nymph.
I am afraid they are not photographic, just watercolours.
Wellllll! They are dated 1911.

Really nice looking. Not sure how the copper wire is secured. Does it ever come off?
Thanks
the wire is secured with thread, just like any other nymph pattern that uses wire for a rib or body.
That is a lot like Skip Morris’ Skip Nymph. Slightly different tying sequence with pretty much the same results. Good pattern.
I thought the original PT Sawyer tied (invented?) was with hook, wire and several pheasant tail biots and also tied in hand.

Sorry, I meant after wrapping up to the thorax
The tying instructions in the sequence say
“Spiral wrap the copper wire forward and stop behind the thorax. Add a couple of half hitches or whip finish the wire and trim off the excess wire.”
It just doesn’t show starting the thread on again to tie off the copper wire.
Normand,
Thanks for sharing this version. I also like the thorax fibers picked-out like you show in the first thumbnail. Gives it that little extra something that the other different colored ones don’t show. Not that they really, really need it! BTW, if I haven’t said it before - I like your site/blog.
Best regards, Dave S.
Thanks, I didn’t think you could whip finish the copper wire…
Love these patterns Donald. Neat sequences and style.

why not? its just like thread
Actually maybe that is how he did it. After I posted that I got to thinking that I just assumed it was tied off with thread. That would have been my first reaction what to when tying it, but the fine wires should be subtle enough to actually whip finish with . Norm?
i think you need to give it a try.
the copper wire was NOT tied off with thread. i actually used 2 half hitches to tie of the wire and then wiggled the wire to break it off. with a long enough tag end of wire, it could be whip finished.
