Pheasant // Briminator ???

Using my whole Pheasant pelt, I am tying some Brimintors.

My question is in the color of the Pheasant, the recipe and photos seem to indicate that the “fluff” used for the tail will be a dark brown…all my fluff is grey.

Is the coloration just a variable or is the hen always brown in the downy feather area?

I am still going to fish them but just courious and noticed they do call for a hen feather and I don’t know enough about pheasants to determine if it as a male or female pelt.

Believe me, brhoff, you’l

If the grey really bothers you, you could use a Prism marker and darken it. Just a thought…

Its a good question. Are the fish hitting the grey Briminators?

I wonder if the brown fluff comes from an artificially dyed pheasant skin?

Uh…do they make brown Kool-Aid (I don’t even wanna KNOW what flavor!)?:lol:

The flavor is root beer…

brhoff,
I tie em in whatever color I’ve got handy, with whatever feathers I can round up. Really doesn’t seem to matter much.
I’ve used grey, brown, lemon woodduck yellow, black … They all seem to work. The black seems to be extra popular with the fishies in one of the local ponds.

So far the Smallmouth, Bluegill, Pumpkin Seeds and Green Sunfish don’t care about the color but again, I was just courious.

Great fly, definitly a pattern I’ll continue with.
