Pflueger Reels ... Vintage style

Would most definitely rate my consideration.

Bamboo rods just don’t look right without older style reels on them. I have the 14941/2 I bought in about 1973 (USA made) and still have it in service. I also have USA made 1994 and 1498s in service and Orvis labeled 1492 and 1495s in use. I’d certainly look at and probably buy a 75th anniversary Medalist…but not in 1492…too smalll. 1494 woudl be about right.

Did anything happen?

I’d be interested in a RHW 1494. (1492 is too small IMHO)

Yeah. What IS the status? I’d buy one in a minute. I recently upgraded one of my old 1494’s putting on a new metal drag plate, counter weight, metal spindle cover plate and 1 Pfoot reel seat.
It’s hard to improve on a classic but that’s what happened.

I would also be interested! I have a soft spot for Pflueger as I was raised in Akron, OH…the original home of Plueger.

Hello Sante,
While I don’t know much about Pfleuger reels I’d be interested in looking to buy one to match my 4 wt bamboo’s, especially since some of the older refinements will be included.
On Ebay, I’ve kind of admired the rounded pilars and if I had a wish it would be for the handles to be made of that “aged” looking material…ebonite or?? Dunno there but you know what I mean.

Thank you,

Jeremy.

I use 1492, 1494 and 2495’s and love 'em.
Definite interest in one of each. Not too fancy and prefer lighter weight. They would be fished on bamboo.

Would also Definetly buy a few of these reels!!

Doug

Me too. I have a vintage Orvis Madison made by Pflueger in Fayeteville, Arkansas in 1972. What a keeper.

“From the Laid Back Lane in the Arkansas Ozarks”

I have a 1494 DA and still use ti on a 6wgt every once in a while. It was one of my first reels and I’m attached to it. Does the “DA” have any significance?

Mark

I’d rather be in Wyoming!

Marco…the DA stands for “dual action” meaning it can be changed from right to left hand retrieve. DA’s were made after Shakespeare aquired Pflueger and were made in Arkansas instead of Akron Ohio. Later manufacturing was moved to Japan, those reels had (CJ) behind the number and later China (AK)

Thanks Buzz!
