Are the 1492’s not convertible right to left because of the click and pawl setup?
I thought it was likely because the small square line guard was not reversible…however the newer ones don’t have the small guard and they are also said not to be convertible.
Yer right ducksterman, I’ve got one like that and it sits in the back of the bookcase never to be used by me.

They 1492’s are the only Medalists that are not reversible, as far as I know.

SOunds like it might be possible with a bit of good old fashion tinkering -

Neat little reel. I have the rather old Orvis Battenkill black and silver variation. Still works great with a Sylk 4 wt.

I want to correct this. The little old Orvis Pflueger 1492 copy is a Madison-not Battenkill.

I’m not real sure how the 1492 is reversible by following the link that pzsy22 gave.?.
Apparently there is indeed a way to reverse the wind on the 1492 reels?
