Perrine Fly Box - to alter on not to alter?

That is the question.

I have a Perrine 100 (I think that’s the number). It has individual spring loaded covered compartments and then clips on the lid. The clips are pretty much useless for anything smaller than a #14, maybe #16. I was thinking of removing the clips and adding either flat foam, but don’t know if there is enough room in the lid so as not to cause the flys to get crushed when the box is closed.

Has anyone else done this?

I glued in foam over the top of the springs in two of my boxes with hot glue, they were the kind with the coil springs. it worked but I recently took it out and retired the boxes. I wasn’t happy with the boxes that way and I didn’t want to ruin the value of the boxes by altering them (they belonged to my grandfather)

just try hot gluing a strip of foam at the base of the clips then put some flies into it, if they arn’t crushed etc you have your answer on your dilemma. the hot glue will hold the foam but peels out if you don’t want to keep it altered

Thanks for the suggestion. I have some ripple and flat replacement foam that I might try.
